15 July and Rational Secularism

I am sharing the link of the programme in which I made evaluations about 15 July on Lider TV, one of the local televisions of Antalya. (You can watch from 1.14.00).

I also wanted to write a summary of what I have said.

1. The FETÖ organisation, which has infiltrated not only the Turkish Armed Forces but also all institutions of the state, has certainly not emerged only in the last 20 years. Today, we understand much better that this organisation, which has been in existence for years, has increased its power abnormally in the last 10-15 years. When we were in military schools in the 80s, there were many students who were subjected to investigations and dismissed from the school. The fact that there have not been any expulsions in the recent period is one of the reasons why the organisation has flourished in the military.

2. A structure that can conceal itself incredibly. Of course, there were some people we could guess, but there were also people who were involved in this organisation who we did not expect at all.

3. The decisions of the 2013 council showed the arrival of 15 July 2016. In 2013, it was the promotion order for the graduates of the 1988 Military Academy, of which I was a member, and when the YAŞ decisions and general promotions were announced, almost all of us were shocked, because not the patriotic and meritorious people we knew and knew, but silent, passive and FETÖ suspects were promoted, and all of these promoted people participated in the 15 July coup attempt, were arrested and punished.

4. During the Sledgehammer and Ergenekon processes, we tried to explain that these people are very dangerous, that they see all means as permissible for their own interests, and that they are plotting against patriotic and meritorious people, but unfortunately we could not make our voices heard at that time.

5. With the judiciary, police, education, bureaucracy and media, which they thought they had captured, the Fetöists attacked whatever was true and flattered whatever falsehoods as if they were true. Unfortunately, they managed to deceive many people.

6. When they said "Military tutelage is coming to an end, the bowels of the country are being cleaned", we said, "Don't do it, don't do it, tutelage has no military or civilian, moreover, democracy has always been established after the tutelage period of the military, you never know what will happen after their tutelage", and they made this nation experience the most embarrassing night in the history of Turkish democracy.

7. In the 15 July uprising, when they thought that this job was now done, that the whole army was with us, we said that no non-hierarchical movement in which the entire armed forces did not participate could succeed, that Kemalism was the noble power in the veins of the Turkish Armed Forces, and as we said, they failed.

As a result of the events of 15 July, more than 300 people lost their lives, including 104 pro-coup soldiers, 1491 people were injured, and 8036 soldiers of different ranks were detained.

Now;

On the one hand, the martyrs, the wounded, the maimed, the dead, the lynched, their families and the damage to the state's tanks, cannons, vehicles and buildings;

On the other hand, he is angry at the degenerates who shot at his own people, parliament, soldiers and police, at the fact that these degenerates have reached every level of the state, and that the people and the army have been pitted against each other;

I applaud and express my gratitude to those who worked hard to uproot this structure from the cadres of the state, who did not hesitate to give their lives for the supremacy of democracy on the night of 15 July, and who declared that the victory would be for those who believe in democracy immediately after the attempt.

As a result, this attempt was suppressed thanks to the will of the people, the stance and struggle of the Turkish Armed Forces and the Security Forces against the coup, and the superior efforts of the political institution with its government and opposition.

In order to prevent such grotesqueries from happening again, we can list what the state should do as follows:

1. To make democracy, freedoms and the rule of law dominant and effective in every field.

2. While continuing all the steps taken to reach the level of contemporary civilisation, to identify deficiencies and implement policies that will yield results.

3. Not to tolerate religious organisations, not to interfere in the free exercise of religion by all religious masses, and to provide an environment where everyone, not only religious people, can live freely as they wish. In other words, to make a rational understanding of secularism dominant.

4. Re-opening military high schools, protecting and safeguarding students against sectarian organisations and teaching the Kemalist thought system to young people in a much better way.
