How Are Your Reflexes? Is your instant reaction fast enough?

I recently came across a video on social media of a cat that survived the bite of a snake at the last moment. The reaction time of cats was between 20 and 70 milliseconds. Since we are all more familiar with cats, we have actually witnessed how fast they can move. We all know how agile a cat can be if it wants to.

Do you know how long a person's reaction time is to anything?

For example, if something suddenly appears in front of you, let's say a pole and you are about to hit your head, how long can you save your head from hitting that pole?

Probably not! That head will hit that pole. Because there can be no reaction time for something you cannot see.

Okay, let's say you see something, for example, if a creature suddenly appears in front of you on the road, if a deer jumps from the side of the road to the middle of the road?

Don't say it can't happen, deer still live in Russia, there are even signs on the roads that deer may come out. I saw one with my own eyes once. We almost hit one.

Also, another car hit a deer, we had also seen such a bad thing on the road to Dça. The bonnet of the car was shattered.

I mean, as humans, we have a certain reaction time from the moment we realise something.

Although this time varies from person to person, approximately our auditory reaction time is around 140-160 milliseconds and our visual reaction time is around 180-220 milliseconds.

For those who do not know that a millisecond is one thousandth of a second.

So I can say that we actually react to external influences quite quickly. 0.22 seconds is not a long time at all.

Our reaction time is also considered as a measure of our intelligence! There is a lot of scientific research on this subject, but believe me, there are quite complex reasons in these researches, I don't want to go into so much detail now. Maybe in the future, I would also deal with the reaction time studies in more depth with its historical development.

However, I can say that our reaction time is quite slow among living things.

For example, a snake's reaction or in other words reflex time was between 44 and 70 milliseconds.

Recently, I came across a video on social media of a cat that was saved from the bite of a snake at the last moment.

The reaction time of cats was between 20 and 70 milliseconds.

Since we are all more familiar with cats, we have actually witnessed how fast they can move. We all know how agile a cat can be if it wants to. My parents used to catch flies with a small paw stroke. I was astonished.

It turns out that cats have even faster reflexes than a snake.

In other words, don't look at them lying around all day in a squishy state, that cute squishy thing can turn into a monster, the nature of cats has developed to be quite agile.

I searched a bit on the internet to see if there is a creature that can reflex faster, but I did not come across any mention of another creature, I think it is thought that there is no faster than cats for now.

Maybe someone has done some research on this subject, but I think it is not a very important subject, I could not find a proper publication. There is more information on how fast living things can run.

The cheetah is the champion in speed, cheetahs can run up to 115-120 kilometres per hour.

For example, a bear can run 56 kilometres per hour. Foxes and lions can reach speeds of 77 and 80 kilometres, respectively.

In the world of birds, there are some that can reach speeds of around 100 kilometres.

As you know, Usain Bolt holds the human record. Since 2009, no one has been able to break his record. He ran 100 metres in 9.58 seconds and became the world record holder. 37.58 kilometres per hour. That's not bad. But compared to other creatures in nature, even this record is pretty low, isn't it?

But these are speed records limited to a short period of time.

Reflex is something else. Instantaneous reaction!

By the way, snakes are not bad at reflexes, I can say that we have no chance compared to humans.

However, despite the fact that human beings have such weak physical means, they still dominated the whole world by using their minds, right?

I guess this is also an irony.

I wish you to control your reflexes.

Love and respect to everyone from Moscow
