Biography

İrfan Sarp is a retired Air Force Major General. He was born in Adapazarı in 1936. He graduated from Kuleli Military High School in 1954 and from Air Force Academy in 1956. He completed his pilot training in the USA. He flew F-86, F-84, F-104 and F-4 type aircraft in the Air Force combat jet units and served as Fleet Operations Officer, Fleet Commander, Operations Commander and Base Commander in these units. He worked as a flight instructor on T-33 aircraft.
He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1970 and from the Armed Forces Academy in 1971. He was promoted to Brigadier General in 1979; In this rank, he served as Washington Air Attaché for three years and as Eskişehir 1st Main Jet Base Command for one year. He was promoted to Major General in 1983; In this rank, he served as the Air Force Logistics Head for three years and the 2nd Deputy Air Force Commander in Diyarbakir for one year. He retired on 30 August 1987.
The author, who has articles published in various magazines, has two books published under the names of Turkish Air Force's Birth Years (2011) and A Jet Pilot's Memoirs (2015).
