Airports of Moscow
Although Turkish history is much older than Russians, at least 59 generations, if we compare it on a city basis, Moscow has been under the influence of a single culture for a longer time than Istanbul, and has developed, expanded and grown accordingly.
History of Turks:
Turks, that is, our ancestors BC. Between 2500 and BC It is calculated that they appeared on the stage of history between 1700 BC.
It is said that our history goes back to 4500 years.
The foundation of the Great Hun State is 312 BC. Even if we start from this date, Turkish history is long enough.
It's been 2334 years. If we say one generation in 20 years, it would be 117 generations.
Orkhon inscriptions M.S. Radio carbon tests, calculated as written in 735, can now give a sufficiently precise date. The oldest works of our written history.
It has been 1287 years since it was written.
We entered Anatolia with the Battle of Manzikert. Huns in the 4th century and Siberians in the 6th century made raids. Later, there were other raids of the Seljuk Turks, but in the end, the gates of Anatolia were opened wide with Sultan Alparslan in 1071.
It's been 951 years. We can say 48 generations. Quite a long time.
We all know that Istanbul was conquered in 1453. It became a Turkish city with Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
It's been 569 years. Almost 6 centuries ago.
Russian History:
Russian history is not as old as ours, its chronology is based on M.S. They start from 862.
It's been 1160 years. The ball is 58 generations. They were able to show themselves on the stage of history long after us.
Although Moscow was one of the first major cities, it was founded later, in 1147.
It's been 875 years. The age of the city close to 9 centuries.
Why did I write these, I was looking for a basis to compare the two cultures in my mind, in order to understand it better.
Cultural Structure of Moscow:
In other words, although Turkish history is much older than Russians, at least 59 generations, if we compare it on a city basis, Moscow has been under the influence of a single culture for a longer time than Istanbul, and has developed, expanded and grown accordingly.
3 centuries is not a short time. Exactly 306 years, what can be done in all this time?
I am not sure if this is the reason, but Moscow is one of the most settled cities in the world. The Kremlin in the middle is a historical castle, the Moscow river flows next to it, with its bastions around it, old churches and old palace buildings within the walls, the Kremlin is the historical Moscow in the middle of the city, in the very center. Of course, Putin also spends his days here. Today's presidential palace is also inside the Kremlin. Kremlin Palace. The famous Red Square next to it got its name from the executions carried out here at the time. At the end of the square, close to the river, there is a stone-covered place with circular stone walls on the sides, and on the side facing the river, the blood of those beheaded by the executioners shed through the gutter in the wall towards the river. It has now become a habit to throw coins there, and visitors pause, somewhat horrified, and toss coins. Just in front of it is the famous historical Vasiliya Blajennovo Church (St. Basil's Cathedral, Basil the Noble Cathedral). The eyes of the masters who made it were blinded, so that they could not make another one of the same.
Kremlin Influence in Moscow:
Over time, the city developed circularly around the Kremlin, I think it was deliberately developed like that. The main roads, which are scattered in all directions in the form of rays starting from the Kremlin, extend gradually in the form of highways until the ring road at the city border. The ring road is 20-25 km from the center in each direction. The highways continue further from the ring road and reach different surrounding cities, all of which are different. One to Kiev, the other to Warsaw, Minsk, San Petersburg, Yaroslavla and others.
Urbanism Understanding and Airport Connections:
In recent years, they had to expand the city outside the ring road, I think they made a mistake, it would be more correct to continue the old order in a circular way, transportation from the quiet residential areas outside the city to the city center is the main reason for the daytime traffic density. However, the city order is preserved in the areas within the ring road. When you want to build a new building, you need to get permission from a thousand different places. Especially from the city architect.
With this understanding of orderly urbanism, airports were consciously placed outside the city enough at the time. For some reason they excluded the eastern side of the city. It's probably due to the weather conditions. There are three main international airports, each in one direction in other directions. In the north, it would be more correct to say, actually a little bit north-west, airports Sheremetyevo, in the south-west Vnukovo, and in the south-east Domodedovo airports.
There Are Three International and Three Domestic Airports in Moscow:
Express train lines have been built from the train stations in the city center to each of the three main airports since 2005, the departure and arrival times of electric express trains are kept to the minute, there are trains in both directions every half hour during the day, if you take the appropriate train according to the departure time of your plane, you will not have any transportation problems. . You can even check-in at these stations and deliver your luggage in advance. Since there is a metro connection to all the stations in the city centers, no matter how heavy the traffic is, whether it is snowing, raining or storming outside, you can comfortably reach the airports or the city in the opposite direction to the nearest metro station to your home. Since the settlement was located according to the metro exits in time, the residential buildings are not too far from the metro exits.
Here is city planning for you. The doer is doing it, nobody betrays the city for some reason. Some governments manage to serve the people. And in a country that we can blame as a one-man, autocratic government or even a dictatorship. Although there are many different issues to be criticized, I have nothing to say in terms of urban planning. We have a lot to learn.
Apart from these three airports, there are three more airports. One of them is Zhukovsky (Ramenskiy) airport, which was opened in recent years, in 2016. But although there are international flights from here, there are usually domestic flights. International flights are mostly to Turkic Republics in Central Asia.
There is also a business airport, allocated to Russia's giant natural gas company Gazprom. It is also used for military purposes. But the chief operating officer is at Gazprom, and he uses it here both for helicopters and for his own planes, in accordance with his own needs. As far as I know, it is open to other business flights as well, you know that every way is open for those who have money.
The sixth airport is Bukovo airport, which was built in second place after the first airport Sheremetyevo in construction order. Since it is very close to the ring road, it was closed to civil flights in 2010.
Flight Rules in Moscow:
No flights are allowed to fly over the city in Moscow. The ring road has been determined as the border, and the planes turn around the ring road at departure and rise to the direction they will go, or those who will land are approaching the airports by turning around the ring road again.
Flight problems arose for the Bukovo airport, probably because it was very close to the ring road, so civilian flights were canceled and today it is only used as the main helicopter hub. Of course, it is also used for military purposes.
The Russians did not plan to close any airport completely and use it for other purposes. Of course, since they didn't make mistakes from the beginning, not one of them was built into the city. They probably planned how far the city would grow.
It is not easy to coordinate flights at so many airports. Yet somehow they organize it. I haven't seen any reports of any problems so far.
Let's get to the main topic, I wrote all this information so that maybe we can get a perspective on the long-standing discussions about our airports in Istanbul.
Let's think about it together for now. Where did we go wrong, how can we fix it, let's look for a solution together.
I've been against big airports from the beginning, but what happened, maybe I'll post my possible solutions later.
Love and regards from Moscow.
