Has my friend Donkey gone to Donkey Heaven?

The late Barış Manço even wrote a song for these long-eared and beautiful-eyed friends of ours. My friend donkey! Look, he didn't call that donkey a donkey in the song, he called it a donkey! My friend mate, my friend shek, my friend donkey!

There's an expression called donkey heaven. Do you know it?

It's defined in the Turkish Dictionary as "the world after death". It's a slang word.

It also means "dungeon" in slang.

Actually, I think this definition is a bit inadequate, because this expression we use such as "he went to the donkey paradise", or "you go to the donkey paradise", even if we sometimes say it jokingly to the person we say this to, it also contains a bit of criticism, not to say insult, but criticism. In a sense, we call the person we are talking about a donkey.

Yes, when we get angry with someone, we call them a donkey.

In fact, it is not used much anymore, but "donkey son of donkey" is also a very used and insulting form of address until yesterday.

The one who hears this insult gets angry saying what are you doing with my father! It is as if he wants to say that you can call me a donkey.

Didn't the late Kemal Sunal say "donkey donkey" in his films?

Although some of his films were very cursory, at least for my generation, he had very funny films in his time.

Many of his films are also very valuable for me in terms of touching on social sensitivity issues.

***

For some reason, even though donkey is actually a cute animal, we Turks have preferred to use the word donkey for insulting purposes.

Although the names of many other animals are used for praise, the word donkey has been used as an insult.

My donkey, you are a lion!

Look, when you say it like this, no one has any objection.

But if you are a donkey, a fight starts immediately.

***

I really don't know if the donkey is used in other languages as it is in ours.

In Russian, similarly, the term "teke" is mostly used.

When you call someone "kazöl (teke)", you are officially insulting them.

Because of the Azerbaijani Turks, I came across some people who also use donkey, but in Russian donkey is not normally used for insult as in our language.

In English, I have not come across the use of donkey as an insult.

***

I don't know when donkeys started to help people, mankind, who used horses more as riding animals, preferred to load donkeys more.

But sometimes he also used that poor animal as a riding animal regardless of its height.

In this sense, you know our most famous character Nasreddin Hodja.

Hodja is famous for riding the donkey upside down.

His joke on this subject is also quite thought-provoking.

The donkey also sees the danger coming from the front!

***

But mostly I said that we loaded the burden of the world on the backs of donkeys and made them carry the load without saying mountain or slope.

There is also a cliché that the donkey that takes its load and hits the slope goes on the right slope.

Supposedly, in the old days, roads were built on the route of loaded donkeys.

Maybe it's true.

The loaded donkey really climbs the slope at a constant slope.

***

You know, there's an expression called donkey stubbornness.

When a donkey is stubborn, it really cannot move.

If you insist, that is, if you pull it, or if you try to tell it to move by hitting it with a stick, it shouts at you with that strange voice.

A, i, a, i!

***

Yes, donkeys are stubborn.

I don't know if it is easy for a donkey to dodge a ditch, but yes, donkeys are stubborn enough, although not as stubborn as camels.

There really is such a thing as donkey stubbornness.

***

That's not donkey stubbornness, that's mule stubbornness!

That's right, there are mules, aren't there!

How come that huge mare and that tiny donkey?

Or vice versa, I guess.

But the one from a stallion is no longer called a mule.

The one whose father was a stallion is called a bardo or an ester.

Bardos were the size of donkeys, but they looked like horses, and bardos were generally not bred because they were less durable than mules.

Mules, on the other hand, inherited their mother's strength and their father's stubbornness.

A mule carries much more load than a donkey.

***

For some reason, mules are infertile.

As you may know, mules don't normally reproduce.

Recently, though, I read a news somewhere that mules can now reproduce.

If it is true, it means that nature has created a new breeding species.

***

Anyway, our topic today is donkeys, so let's leave the mules aside and move on to donkeys.

Today is donkey day!

The late Barış Manço even wrote a song for our long-eared and beautiful-eyed friends.

My friend the donkey!

Look, he didn't call the donkey a donkey in the song, he called it a donkey!

My mate, my mate, my mate şek, my mate donkey!

***

There's another term for a donkey.

The donkey trial!

Have you ever heard of this term?

It's more likely that you haven't.

*

Donkey trial is an obsolete term.

If you look at TDK, it says it's an obsolete mathematical term!

Don't be surprised, yes, it is a maths term!

It means the theorem that proves that the square of the hypotenuse in a right triangle is equal to the square of the perpendicular sides!

In other words, the Pythagorean theorem we know used to be called the "donkey case".

a2+b2=c2

Isn't that interesting?

I was surprised when I saw it.

***

Of course, this is not all the expressions about donkeys.

And then there's "I'll beat the shit out of you".

It means I'll beat you very badly, or maybe I'll beat you for a long time.

It seems that when the donkey goes to the water, it stays in the water for a very long time!

By the way, I am against violence, I don't want to be misunderstood when I write this.

***

We also say "you will do it like a donkey", sometimes we prefer to say "like a donkey" instead of "like a donkey", "sh" We say the letter "I know how to make you do that job, even if it's by force".

In my opinion, since this is also a violent expression, I should state that I had to mention it only because it was mentioned.

***

Also, I think the donkey's skin is very thick, so there is also a phrase "like donkey skin".

Figuratively speaking, for people with little emotion and no emotion, it is said, "You have a face like a donkey's skin! You have no shame!"

This is a phrase used for people who are a bit brazen!

I wouldn't want anyone to be called like that. What a bad analogy.

***

When it comes to the donkey, let's not skip its offspring.

We have a phrase "you donkey's foal!", which we use when we get angry with the little ones, and some people even use it when they love the little ones.

Donkey colts are actually very cute.

The offspring of every creature is beautiful, but colts are also cute.

***

Sometimes we use the expression "you have become like a donkey" to indicate that children have grown up.

"Look at him, he's the size of a donkey!", in other words, we use the analogy of a donkey even to indicate the size of something.

How many donkeys have we come into contact with?

Let me not deviate from the subject because there are those who are more closely acquainted with donkeys.

But really donkeys were very helpful to people in their time.

***

Today, there may be some people who still keep donkeys in the villages.

In some places, I know that there are also donkeys released into the nature because it is difficult to feed them.

As you know, our region famous for its donkey is Merzifon region.

***

Not only Merzifon, of course, but I think it was in Osmaniye region, animal lovers started a programme to feed the free-ranging donkeys in nature by putting the leftover vegetables and fruits from the markets into special feeding troughs made of wood.

I really appreciated their devotion.

It means that there are many donkeys in Osmaniye region.

***

As far as I know, a donkey will eat anything you give it.

I even saw it eating an old Anadol crate when I was little.

Still, I guess it can't be easy to feed it.

***

We have many proverbs and idioms about donkeys.

From thorns to bees and olives, there are many other things associated with donkeys.

But I think this is enough.

***

It is said that donkey milk is the closest to mother's milk.

If there are any donkeys left from being made into sausage, I would prefer them to live freely in nature.

Donkeys are lovely animals, they have suffered a lot from us, let them enjoy a little bit of freedom.

Let donkeys live freely in nature.

***

One last thing about the donkey came to my mind, I cannot end this article without mentioning it.

As you probably know, I am talking about the famous joke.

You know, the joke about the village lord in the east telling the villagers about the animals in Africa with a donkey after returning from safari.

He described the zebra as a donkey wearing pyjamas and the giraffe as a long-necked donkey.

And again he describes the python snake with a donkey.

I laugh a lot every time I read this joke.

If you don't know it, you can find it on the internet, I won't write it here with all the details.

Love and respect to everyone from Moscow.
