Language is the House of Being

While thinking about existence, about time, people realize their thoughts through language. Even when thinking about language, he says what he will say to the extent that the language allows or within the limits of the language. We can also say that one cannot imagine a thought that cannot be expressed in language. “Language is the house of being.” This is what Heidegger means when he says.

Starting to talk about the possibility of philosophy begins with talking about the possibility of language. Thinkers who want to see the effect of language on thought and culture have attempted to do research on societies and have produced many works on this subject. Wittgenstein and Malinowski are the most famous of these thinkers.

The Language of the Society is the Culture of the Nation:

The language of a society reveals the thought, culture and mentality of that society. Every nation has a language that reflects its culture and mentality, so that as many languages as there are, there are as many different ideas, different cultures and different shaped mentalities. There are various legends about how languages came to be. The most well-known is the Legend of the Tower of Babel. In this legend, it is told that God separated people's whole languages and made it difficult for them to understand each other.

Language, which is seen as a means of punishment in myths, is mentioned as a blessing bestowed by God in religious texts. Adam's learning of words and recognizing things by naming them is a special blessing from God. Thus, what distinguishes man from other living species is that he is a talking creature. The human being, who "confirms" his external speech by transforming his imagination/inner speech about objects into propositions, is made different from other living things with this speech. Thus, for this speaking creature, thinking also emerges as an aspect that distinguishes it from other living things. Talking, willing and thinking have now become the distinguishing features of human beings. Thus, it comes to mind that language is a loaded code, a downloaded feature. Because God also speaks. Kalam is one of his attributes and he speaks to people through his prophets. It addresses people with people's language and while downloading its word, it also reduces it to human language and perception.

Can the Limits of Thought be Transcended with the Limits of Language?

Let's try to answer this question through the mentioned movie. Time is definitely in the first place in the products that make up the basic structures of the language. According to Lacan, language is a chain on narration and comprehension, as it were, and time is always an intervening element.

Arrival is a science fiction drama movie that was released in 2016. Mysterious oval-shaped ships land vertically in 12 different regions of the world. What they came for is unknown. The American army seeks help from a linguist woman named Louise. Contacting the aliens to find out what their purpose is, Louise begins to see her own future as she learns their language. Because the language they use is not linear but circular, and this language allows time to be perceived as circular. Communicating from behind a screen, two aliens write by secreting an ink-like liquid-gas mixture, and as Louise communicates over more words, she gains more visions of the future. Consciousness now begins to operate in a loop between the past, the future, and the present.

Language of Arrival Movie:

The film tells how language affects the perception of time. “I thought my story started with you.” The movie started with the words “I don't believe in beginnings and endings anymore.” ends with

Man's invention of writing is considered the beginning of civilization. Or the beginning of civilization is assumed to be the invention of writing. Language is for people to get along with each other. At the same time, language exists for human beings to define and perceive existence. When we say infinity, we perceive infinity, when we say thought, we try to think, when we say time, we try to understand time. Abstract concepts open the door to abstract perceptions.

On Nonlinear Language:

Our hero, who learns the nonlinear language even though it is fiction, makes some choices by seeing his own future, the future of the world. It enables the countries considered to be the superpowers of the world to come together and to start a new order. He saves the world from a possible war. This fiction tells us the emotional state mechanism of the language we use in our perceptions. We can write slogans by combining a few words and mobilize a mass through those slogans. This mobility in the language facilitates the activation of the person involved in time with the language included in the time. “Language is a weapon, use your weapon!” suggests the movie Arrival. Language, which is the tool of propaganda, is presented as if it is the key of time.

A nonlinear language opens the doors of time and conquers time. Such a language rises, uplifts humanity, and of course can bring peace. With words, a person can be convinced of peace as well as of war. A non-temporary peace can be caused by a language that is not temporary and leaves a strong time perception effect. Muawiya: "I have achieved more with my tongue than with Ziyad's sword." the word sums up the power of the word very well. In various places in the Qur'an, it is ordered to use the word well and to say good words.

The goal of a language that will explain the ideals and ideals of the Turkish nation and realize them is hidden within the broad borders of Turkish for us.

Thus, as language develops in the content of existence and time, thought develops and the doors of an ideal philosophical system are conquered. It should not be said that it is fiction, because truth is something that can be fictionalized.

Based on an imaginary story, we have told our ideal/ideal/dream that we hope to realize. Now back to the real world.

How Does the Common Spoken Turkish Language Affect Thought?

Understanding has always been a need for human beings. However, all the languages we use to express ourselves and to understand the other person are shaped linearly over the past tense. “I was born in such and such a city, on these dates, I received education in such schools and on this date I was appointed to the profession.” We introduce ourselves with words. The past leaves us nothing but fragmentary moments. Memories, important events, whatever we can convey, we can consume in half an hour. This is the biggest reason for the inability for a definition and recognition. The linear perception of time is perhaps due to this use of language, which we make a habit of even when we meet.

The language we use in our daily conversations also distracts us from thought and philosophy. One day becomes the same as the next, as it is said, "Today Was Actually Yesterday," as in The Truman Show and Groundhog Day. There is no redundancy to add to our world of meaning. Philosophy has no language, but languages have philosophy. Philosophy is added to language, just as thought is added to language. While we were talking about the possibility of thought, we always talked about the possibility of language being compatible with thought. Philosophy begins when thought is expressed, when thought begins to be expressed. When an analysis of existence, morality, time, and politics begins, it means that philosophy is being done, whether it is written or not.

Thinking in Turkish and Turkish Philosophy:

Let's say that Turkish is an analytical language right here. As long as Turkish is not detached from its essence and its corruption can be prevented. For this, school curricula can be edited and perhaps individual lessons can be added. Because Turkish, which is widely spoken in Anatolia today, is getting weaker and losing its influence on thought.

Is there a stronger version of Turkish than its current state?

Our answer would be two yeses. Turkish can be strengthened by being protected from alienation and by remembering forgotten words and idioms. This will restore its former strength. We cannot tolerate the difference between the commons and the air when it comes to language. Since it is not a special branch of science, the use of language in its most beautiful form includes necessity. Especially in educational institutions, being able to use the language in the best way should affect the validity status. Today, there are many people who have received education, even graduated from higher education, and have not gained the ability to write and speak correctly. Those who cannot speak correctly and cannot use the language correctly will not be able to think correctly.

Turkish seems to have come out of nature. It belongs to nature, it is like a production of it. However, the forgotten words in this language are more than the words used. And the more words and phrases there are, the more thoughts and thinking skills are forgotten. Erasing each word from memory means erasing the corresponding idea. Like the doors closed by the storm, the forgotten words seem to close the doors of thought and leave.

A Solution Suggestion for Our Education World:

For this reason, our suggestion is to open separate courses in secondary education on this issue and to teach young people to speak and think with these words again. We hope that this language of its own nature will give rise to thought of its own nature.

The mind develops with the language, and as a result of the weakening of the language, it weakens. This is inevitable. There are studies that show changes in brain functions when a new language is learned. A person reaches the mentality of the language he has learned, and begins to dream and think with that language. This is how obvious language has an effect on the mind. In the common words of young people, psycho statements will lead to psychotic ideas or ignorance in accordance with these statements. Just as a desert can produce no vegetation, such an easy and thoughtless culture of speech will produce nothing.

Consequences of Misuse of Language:

We have adopted to see culture and language in terms of fact-value distinction. But we must also recognize that our fundamental problems are the result of language misuse. What we call culture is read through a compressed, wrong interface with its language, religion and customary content, and as such it prevents reasoning, working and producing. Unfortunately, nothing but laziness can be derived from this weakening language. In this way, language drags us into cultural autism loneliness.

Today, since Turkish is used in a weakened form, individuals who use it as it is cannot read themselves, the world, or existence. Wittgenstein: “I am the world, the world is my self.” referring to his word, a society that speaks with weakened and reduced vocabulary cannot be the world and cannot find a place for its self in this world. Again, Wittgenstein says: “When language becomes boring, it also moves into life and into the solitude of the mind facing the world.”

In his despair there was the confinement of two situations: the solitary confinement that had become boring and from which he could no longer escape: his own self. The probation that he could not escape with blood and land bonds: his culture. But the same man considered language, which he saw as the cause of despair, as a reason for salvation. If language, due to its functional aspect, makes it possible for cultural and intellectual collapse when weakened, it also prepares the ground for liberation when it becomes stronger with its active aspect. As Jacques Ellul put it: “Anyone who wishes to save humanity must first save language today.”

Establishment of Atayurt-Turkestan and Homeland-Turkey Liaison and Turkish Philosophy:

In fact, it is my projection of the theoretical, practical and poetic structure of the philosophy of happiness, which comes from re-reading the basic cultural codes we brought from Turkistan to re-territorialize philosophy in Anatolia with the knowledge of ancient civilizations in Anatolia and interpreting Turkish through Wittgenstein, Malinowski and Lacan.

In this sense, when Turkish is used with all its superior possibilities, the mind will follow it and Turkish philosophy will find the opportunity. Since no system of thought will choose a privileged class for itself, we think that this proposal should be carried out with a study that will cover the entire education system. Because it is not clear in which room philosophy will bloom. Firstly, it is a place for philosophy, homeland, and then rich thought and intellectual activities that will develop in that dormitory. That is our hope.

Culture can evolve. We should know that no culture is eternal. Its permanence depends on its development. We perceive the world with ourselves, and our self with the world. Between this cycle, what weakens us is the same thing that will strengthen us: language and its use.

Mevlüt Uyanık's philosophy readings, which started with Aristotle and Farabi for 27 years as a companion with the distinguished minds of the world at Çorum Faculty of Theology, are becoming more and more common to the public, like halos falling into a stagnant lake, and find a response in young minds.

Conclusion:

Of course, the Project of Reterritorializing Philosophy in Anatolia is a work that foresees all these suggestions. For this reason, without further ado, we end our article here. It will be our last wish to wish that this article is not far from correct thought and correct expression. The doors of Turkish philosophy will be opened with Turkish, right thinking will be conquered with the right use of language.
