Passer, Passer Builds the Game
Passers are the builders of the game. Not only do they have to follow the ball from the cuff, no matter how hard the cuff is met, but they also have to decide with which attacker they are going to attack. Possible game plans are shown with their fingers behind their backs while waiting for the serve, unseen by the opposing players.
I have written before that volleyball is one of my favorite team sports.
I even wrote an article on volleyball, but it was more about player performances and the tactics of the offensive players in those last seconds of the game.
In this article, let me share some of my observations on passers.
Yes, passers are actually the founders of the game.
Not only do they have to follow the ball coming from the cuff, no matter how hard the cuff is met, but they also have to decide which offensive player they are going to attack with in the meantime.
Possible game plans are shown with their fingers behind their backs while waiting for the serve, without the opposing players seeing them.
However, this game plan is not always practicable. Depending on the serve and the way the header is received, a different game plan may be needed at that moment.
The passer has to be a smart person who can come up with such practical solutions.
While making this decision, he will also follow the opposing team's block placement very well so that the attacker can find the appropriate space to kill the ball.
Sometimes the passer will also fake a second pass and send the ball into the opponent's court himself.
Since this move is not expected by the opposing team, most of these moves end with a point.
Such a move doesn't always work, of course, but if the opposing team is a bit careful, they can immediately counteract this move.
Passers can also be good blockers when the opponent has the ball.
Especially when they are tall enough, they can be a very useful player for their team in front of the net.
So being a playmaker is not easy.
Even getting the pass to the exact spot for the offensive player to have a good shot is quite difficult.
In order to do that, you need to train as a team for a long time.
When you say team, the players have to be used to each other.
The coach is the one who keeps track of who reacts in which situation, whether they are out of the game at that moment, how they perform.
The passer, as we say, is the one who builds the game, of course the passer doesn't build the game on his own.
It is much easier for the coach to read the game from the outside.
Since he knows his players very well, the coach is actually the main playmaker in matches.
Putting the right player on the floor at the right time, giving tactics during the breaks, motivating the players, all these are indispensable for a coach.
I don't know, I love volleyball matches.
I like it much more than many team sports.
It's not a game where individual skills are at their peak like basketball, nor is it a very messy game like soccer because it's played on a very big court.
They are all team games, of course, and individual performances are very important in all of them. But volleyball seems to me to be a much more tactical game, maybe because each point is a separate start in itself, maybe because the number of moves is limited.
If we talk about tactics, there are tactics in every sport, but in volleyball the spectators can actually read the tactics.
In this sense, it is a very beautiful game.
Volleyball is also a fair play game. Direct contact with the other team is not possible. You can pull the opposing player by his jersey without the referee seeing, nor can you trip him. You can't make direct contact with the opposing team player.
Even when you score a point, it is against the rules to make any move against the opposing team.
So when a point is scored, players have to share their joy with their teammates.
Today I wanted to get away from everything and make this a sports article.
So I will not refer to politics or anything else.
Let me just end by saying that team play is good.
And the quarterback is very important, very important in all kinds of things!
The quarterback has to be smart!
The other players have to know their roles.
Also, everyone has to have enough performance and they are expected to have practiced enough.
This is the only way you have a chance of success. I'm not saying you will, mind you, I'm saying you have a chance!
Stay with sports. Especially team sports.
