What to Wear Today?
Yes, clothes and jewelry are important in human life. Long, short, millet, bolu, whatever the fashion is, depending on the weather and environment of the day, we all dress in some way. We all follow fashion in our own way.
Women Follow Fashion Well
Summer has arrived and Moscow is as festive as ever. There are a lot of beautiful girls, a lot of beautiful ladies walking around in short skirts and shorts. Of course, like every man, I like this situation.
In winter, for some reason, beautiful ladies don't stand out so much. Actually, I have been criticizing this situation for a long time, the population is not what it used to be, I don't know, maybe it's just me. Years ago it was as if people were prettier, whichever direction you looked, a beautiful lady would catch your eye. But things have really changed. Lately, there are more and more people here who don't pay much attention to themselves and their appearance. I think malnutrition has a lot to do with it. Russian ladies usually didn't eat anything until lunchtime, and when they did, they ate very little. But now I see that everyone can finish huge plates in restaurants. I think fastfood is also a problem, obesity started to appear here when fastfood culture came from Europe. Nevertheless, the hot weather of summer has an effect on people, especially those who are self-confident.
Fashion also has a lot to do with this change. Now I see a lot of people with tattoos on their left, right, legs and arms on the roads. Although I feel like most of the tattoos are not real tattoos. They are more like some tattoos made with sticker paints. The kind that come off when you wash them. Some have literally drawn something with a pencil on their arms and legs.
The new fashion in nails (although it's old now) is that each nail is a different color, at least one or two of them are different colors. There are also some motifs on them, but they are long like in the past. They all have a cell phone in their hands, I honestly don't understand how they type with those long nails.
And the clothes are tattered. It's been in fashion for a while now, but lately they've really overdone it, now the rips are literally hanging out of the clothes, every part of them is exposed. I don't think it's very important where the rips are, but it makes you want to pity them, most of them dress as if they've been beaten up and let loose on the street. Age doesn't matter in this fashion either, in the past, mostly young people used to wear this kind of clothes, I used to say okay, it was their heyday, let them wear whatever they want. Now I see even middle-aged people dressing like this, I think people are crazy.
Jewelry, jewelry, but what are these tattoos?
And these jewelry, the chains and rings they all wear here and there, I think they are called piersing. Some pierced their eyebrows and put a ring or a pin through it, some pierced their tongue and put something on it, and when they open it, the tip of their tongue shines. In the old days, they used to make a bear play the darbuka in the alleyways, and the bear would have a ring on its nose. Nowadays, you can find people who wear a ring on their nose or pierce a big hole in their earlobe and put a ring in it. It has already become natural to wear multiple earrings in the ears. Who knows what other things people are wearing. I really think everyone is crazy.
In the past, they used to stick a tiny stud on their nose, now this fashion of sticking shiny stones has started on necks instead of necklaces. It actually looks nice. So it's interesting. Maybe soon they will go back to the anklet, they are always doing something new, they dye their hair colorfully, for example, but to me most of what they do seems like a repetition.
This should not be taken as criticism, it's just an assessment of the situation. Of course there is a little bit of criticism in it. My main criticism is of some of the things that are done, for example, excessively tattered clothes with fabric hanging over the edges, huge piercing rings on the earlobes, nose rings, and excessive tattoos. The rest, in my opinion, looks good on the wearer.
Yes, clothes and jewelry are important in human life. Long, short, millet, bolu, whatever the fashion is, depending on the weather and environment of the day, we all dress in some way. We all follow fashion in our own way.
Animals in Nature Have No Dressing Problems
Apart from humans, there is really no other creature in nature that wears clothes. Nature has given natural clothing to some creatures, many of them have hides, turtles, snails, etc. have hard protectors, but they are more functional. I don't know of any creature that dresses itself like humans do, I see poodles and monkeys dressed up on the internet sometimes, it's funny, but no one dresses themselves. Many creatures are naturally covered with hair or feathers to protect themselves from the weather, fish in the water are covered with scales, for example, but these things have developed functionally in nature.
Of course, there are also colorful, attractive males that are different from females, such as the colorful tail of a peacock, the mane of a lion, the horns of a deer, the colorful tail of a guppy, the males of creatures that nature has transformed and beautified to make them more attractive to females. In humans, too, men are more hairy than women, but I don't think this is something that nature has developed to make men like women.
In the world of flowers, too, nature has created colorful flowers with all kinds of scents, all to establish the cycle of life, to attract bees to the flower, to transport pollen from one flower to another, to increase diversity, all these are solutions found by nature. So it's not fashion, it's the natural cycle of life.
Where did the need for humans to dress come from?
Since we were born naked from our mothers just like any other living creature, why did we feel the need to dress ourselves? Why do we feel this need while other creatures do not? What is our difference from others?
Now don't answer these questions by saying "but we are human beings, this world was created for human beings and all other living things exist for human beings". I am not talking about what is written in holy books, that is a matter of faith.
After all, we develop over time like all living things in nature, the habits and knowledge of centuries ago are not the same as the level of civilization today. Moreover, there are many findings from our past, and as we research and examine the findings, the evidence of this historical development is slowly emerging. So what I am curious about is what really happened?
Of course, there is not much information about clothes among these findings. Because the animal hides or plant leaves that human beings started to use as clothing could not resist the ruthless destructive power of time, and they decayed and disappeared over time.
The oldest findings from archaeological excavations date back to 30 thousand years ago, dating back to the Stone Age. They found dyed flax fibers in a cave in Georgia, the "Dzudzuana" cave. Since they were dyed, it is thought that in those times clothing was also used for decoration.
Nevertheless, it seems that human beings, who started their migration journey from Africa, thought of dressing to adapt to the environment, that is, to protect themselves from cold weather, as they spread northward to places with cold climates.
Over time, for whatever reason, as they got rid of their feathers, they must have started to dress in order to adapt to the natural conditions, in a sense to protect themselves from the cold in some places and from extreme heat in others.
Since the people of that time had already discovered cutting tools, they may have made protective clothing for themselves from the skins of the animals they caught. They probably realized that animal fur does not freeze in the cold. The most suitable animal hide to wear is thought to be that of the bear marten.
In hot places, they probably used plants to protect themselves from the sun. But as I said, since these clothes also disappeared over time, it is not known exactly when human beings started to wear clothes. Only some paintings found in caves show clothes, some of these paintings are made of red ochre and date back almost 200 thousand years. Therefore, it is thought that people started to paint their bodies with this paint at that time. If they had clothes at that time, maybe they started to dye their clothes at that time.
What do scientists say about the need for clothing?
While researching on another topic, scientists have actually come up with an interpretation of when human beings might have started to dress.
In 2011, as a result of genetic research on lice, one of today's parasites, it was discovered that about 170 thousand years ago, lice were divided into hair lice and clothes lice. It is thought that these dates are probably the dates when human beings started to wear clothes. This is undoubtedly an approximation, but it seems that both the introduction of dyes and the use of clothes led to the creation of fashion.
This is the estimated development of clothing in unknown history. So there is not much information, but a lot can be written about clothes in known history.
For example, I find it interesting that today, baby boys are dressed in pale blue clothes and baby girls are dressed in pale pink clothes. It used to be the other way around, but for some reason it has changed over time.
Another topic is the skirts of the Scots, it sounds funny, but when you think about it, why should skirts be special for women? Why has fashion developed in this direction? I think it should be researched.
After all, in Rome, during the times of Caesar, they used to wrap a sheet around them and walk around like that. That was the fashion of that time.
Isn't it the same today in Arabia? I don't think they would wear a black chador in that heat. They also wear something like a white chador. It is very normal for them to wear something free. In that heat, you can only protect yourself from the sun by wearing something light colored. You also need to cover your head, it is very hot, whether you are a woman or a man, you have to cover your head. Otherwise your brain will cook instantly. It is in our genes to adapt to the weather conditions.
I once went to Dubai for a business trip, you can't stick your head out of the hotel door for two minutes, it's that hot. It was comfortable inside because the air conditioners were working, but there were also people working outside in that heat, I think they were Filipino workers, it was unbelievable.
Can there be symbolic gains through clothing?
There is a subject that has been on the lips of those in power lately, they call it gains. What do gains mean? I don't understand at all, I guess some people think they are guardian angels.
Yes, some mistakes were made in the past, and most of these mistakes were made during the coup years. After the September 12, 1980 coup d'état, there was a regulation called "Regulation on Dress Code in Public Offices". Before that, there were some prohibitions on this issue. The headscarf ban! It was once forbidden to work in universities and public institutions wearing a headscarf. Now it is not. Is this the problem or the achievement?
My late mother also wore a headscarf. She prayed five times a day.
As I said, mistakes were made at the time, but now it is understood that those mistakes were mistakes. The biggest mistake was to deviate from the path of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Atatürk dreamed of a modern Turkey, and for this purpose he enacted a hat law, but this law was a law for men. He did not have any suggestions or even a written proposal on women's dress code in his lifetime. In fact, I think even the hat law was a mistake, and I think he made a mistake. I think it would have been more than enough for him to set an example to the society with his modern dress. I think it is unnecessary to tie such issues to laws, regulations and circulars.
There will definitely be dress standards for the public sphere, but especially in civilian areas such as teaching and civil service, this issue could have been regulated with more liberal rules at the time. In non-civilian fields, a soldier's dress, a firefighter's dress, a nurse's dress should be regulated in line with religious sensitivities.
Fashion Always Offers Solutions to Clothing Style
Actually, I think fashion is the solution to everything. Let the fashion designers think. Even the clothes in public spaces should be filtered by fashion before they are written in the regulations. Maybe there should be fashion competitions every year on these issues. Band players, waiters and hostesses should be able to change their outfits every year according to common taste.
As I said, fashion is the solution to everything. Do you think there is no fashion for women wearing hijab today? There is, and I think fashion designers think of very beautiful clothes. It should be like this, it should be suitable for everyone, everyone should wear whatever they want, there should be an environment of freedom where you can wear whatever you want.
When I say everything, of course I have some limits in this regard, my limits are hidden in the word "should". It is ingrained in our genes from our ancestors, it cannot change from now on.
Of course, let's dress up, let's dress down, let's dress up, let's dress up, but as long as we dress well.
Love and regards from Moscow.
