Where İs Entebbe?

Idi Amin and the Entebbe Raid:

This week I will try to convey to you information about the city  of Entebbe, Uganda,  whose name we have heard through various events (Idi Amin and  the Entebbe Raid).  As people my age and above will remember; Due to the  practices of the dictator named Idi Amin, Uganda has occupied the world agenda for a long time.  It is a geography that has been in the memory due   to the bloody operation of  the Air France plane hijacked by Palestinian militants  by Israeli security forces at Entebbe airport. Uganda, one of the countries that share the Vict oria Lake in the middle of Africa, has the beauties that will take you to a very different African environment than your minds with its lush and ever-rainy environment.    The city of Entebbe was established on the shore of the lake with these beauties and awaits you with the identity that offers the natural environment to people in an unlimited way.

Entebbe Airport, which is the center of international flights to the country,  is extremely simple, not very large, but has a very effective use feature. Entry procedures  are completed in a very short time compared to many countries and it is possible to go directly out of the airport following the baggage claim area, which is not very large.  Unlike many airports in the world, those who  will meet the passengers, those who wait for a taxi after the flight and the customer reception officers of the hotels, etc. are not allowed into the terminal and wait in large tents prepared for them. Thanks to this application, the airport is extremely calm and has a noiseless and extremely clean appearance as it is used only by passengers.

Due to the fact that the airport is about 40 minutes away from the city center and the number of taxis is small, the reason for which I do not know is small, it is possible that you will see passengers waiting for the next taxi in the taxi waiting tent at the exit of the terminal. In the meantime, if you do not have a pre-coordinated transfer connection from the airport to your accommodation, you do not have a chance except for the taxi option, which is not very comfortable.

City Center and Hot Weather:

A very pleasant journey awaits you during the journey to the city center. You will travel in an environment where you can see every shade of green to the fullest. On the way to the city center, you will hardly be affected by traffic  through  a highway that is not too long. Your accommodation will be in a not-so-dense traffic (British system from the left) environment and your accommodation will take your fatigue after the flight. Since you will arrive here after a flight of about 6-7 hours from our country and there is no time difference between us, you will not feel serious fatigue.

Here you can start your activities directly, depending on the length of your stay.  The most important thing you should pay attention to is to wear shirts/t-shirts and pants with as long sleeves as possible. The air temperature is around 28-30 degrees during the day and 18-20 degrees at night, which is the biggest threat for you as a risk of malaria due to the large number of mosquitoes that you cannot predict, especially from the lake. Since the mosquito threat during sunrise and sunset has the ability to cause malaria, it is necessary to be very careful especially during these hours. Since everywhere is covered with foliage and vegetation, you will encounter mosquitoes and flying pests at any time of the day. The use of long-sleeved upper clothing and pants-type clothing will be appropriate for your health as they can sometimes disturb your eyes in flocks.

Culinary Culture:

The people living in the country have an extremely calm temperament and special efforts to help the guests who come. There are no security issues. Local people mainly make a living through agriculture and animal husbandry. As you will see along the way, the color of the soil is almost never seen, everywhere has every shade of green. In the limited places where you see the soil, it shows itself in a clay way so that whatever you put will grow. While you are here, I would definitely recommend you to buy coffee beans for yourself and as a gift. When you use it on your return, it is very famous for its delicious and high quality coffee that makes you doubt whether it is the coffee you have drunk before. Of course, souvenirs for woodworking and handmade paintings with natural dyes are preferred by the guests who come here.

In addition to the many opportunities and options for world cuisine  ,tropical fruits and potatoes have an important place in local cuisines.  The  "matooke",  presented with greens made by frying or crushing bananas, is very famous.  However, the fact that rice types are generally preferred instead of bread in  meals is another issue that attracts my attention.

Accommodation Facilities:

On average, 3-star hotel accommodation fees are around 30-40 US dollars including breakfast, 80-100 US dollars in 5-star hotels, and most accommodation facilities  have resorts. Since usually the accommodation facilities are located on the shore of the lake,  you can go on lake activities (canoeing, surfing, pedaloizing, etc.).  participation can be obtained from here. If you participate in  such events between 16:00 and 18:00, which is called "golden hour", the photos and visuals you will have will look more beautiful.

A period of 2-3 days will be enough for sightseeing and rest in the city of  Entebbe. There are no important monuments to visit here except for zoos for wildlife (short safari  and chimpanzee farm, etc.)  and botanical garden. Africa is an extremely convenient place to experience tropical life and buy handmade products. According to our country, it has the feature of being preferred due to inexpensive living conditions. It has an ideal geographical feature for those who want to relax on the shore of the lake.
