You know social media influencers. Social media influencers are people who reach and influence large audiences by sharing content on social media channels such as Instagram, Twitter, Tiktok or Snapchat. The Turkish meaning of this term is "influencer". Unfortunately, there is no exact equivalent. This is how the word "phenomenon" became one of the most widely used foreign words, and it is not going to go away.
Influencers not only share things but also have the power to influence their followers. Even if we don't all follow them directly, we understand this better when we see the immersive publications of these people. It is hard not to get 'hooked' by the publications of influencers who somehow 'convince' the masses to follow them. There is no shame in this. Watch, pass by. But one should not be sick of it.
On the other hand, I would like to share with you my opinion that phenomena are only one of the negative consequences of globalization. Because what is called globalization affects the lives of individuals by manifesting itself in many areas. The concept of globalization, especially in the fields of economy, politics and culture, has had a significant impact on both the media and the news cycle, leading to change and transformation even in local societies and cultures. And it continues to do so. There is almost no neighborhood or village left in the world that has its own unique life, culture and style. Everywhere has been submerged under this flood of globalization.
In this context, with the globalization of the media, a uniform culture has emerged all over the world. Movies, TV programs, music video clips have also changed to support this argument. The global news cycle, which is in the hands of international agencies, causes an imbalance in the global flow because it is published because of the views of western imperialism of a certain capital. In this context, "news" is only in the hands of certain agencies; dominance is maintained. Agencies cannot serve every news story as they please. Due to this policy, they sometimes ignore some 'facts'. Although they are trying to correct these, especially in terms of the effects of global media and the imbalances in the news cycle, they have not yet reached a sufficient level. Due to the international communication cycle, the global media environment is controlled by a monopoly, in the hands of certain capital groups. The Turkish media is also affected by this. Whatever distortions there are in this field in the world, even worse ones find a place for themselves in this sense. Our current corrupt social and individual culture, which lives by detaching everything from its main channel, does even worse in the context of the media.
In this sense, the beautiful people of my beautiful country are experiencing a phenomenon. All of Turkey has been talking about the couple Dilan Polat and Engin Polat for days. In other words, it is a country that international financial institutions do not lend to because of money laundering. However, the UAE is a very rich country. They say there are hotels there with door handles made of gold. We are the liars of those who tell us. Of course, we cannot say that every person who goes to Dubai is laundering money. But if you are going to have fun, you don't go to Dubai. Since this matter has been transferred to the supreme Turkish courts, it is not possible for us to make any comment on the matter for now. But my fear is that we are watching a theater for show. Because the state should have been monitoring these incidents before they broke out and taking the necessary precautions before they escalated. Why does the state, the legal system wait until the last moment? More precisely, what does it wait for?
