Shooting Stars

Metin Uca, Köksal Engür, Seda Fettahoğlu, Yılmaz Gruda, Can Gürzap, Tanju Tuncel, Cevdet Arıkan, Rana Cabbar... and many more flew away as shooting stars.

Continue from the stars.

Let's talk about shooting stars today, but not the ones in the sky, but the ones in our art world.

***

I came across a play by Ferhan Şensoy on YouTube.

“One Day When Fortune Was Stupid”. In the play, Ferhan Şensoy plays a writer who thinks of going to a quiet hotel on top of the mountain and writing something. Constantly talking on the phone with his wife etc.

The play is actually a one-man play, but at one point Ferhan Şensoy includes a member of the audience.

The deceased was a very intelligent theater artist and wrote his own plays. Rest in piece.

I missed it, I sat and watched the game with pleasure.

Then I remembered the stars that disappeared this year.

For example, Erkin Baba, we loved listening to his songs during our university years, I still listen to him, we even had a job in a city called Kastroma in Russia, going there by sleeper train was the most convenient way to travel. There is no internet connection on the road either. I would listen to loads of music on my phone all night long, mostly his albums.

Erkin Koray was one of the giants of the music world. Let's remember him too, may he rest in peace.

Is it possible to talk about shooting stars and not mention Özkan Uğur?

MFÖ! Legendary music group!

They are all very valuable, but Özkan Uğur has a different place.

I can still see his cute appearance before my eyes.

His voice and music aside, the films he shot with my dear Cem Yılmaz also have a special place in my heart, each of those films is great. He has proven to the whole world that he is a very valuable artist.

Although he left us early, it made us very sad. Rest in piece.

Then Nurhan Damcıoğlu!

He has been a cheerful canto singer on the stage since my childhood, and thanks to him I learned what canto was. Kanto is not simple music.

I wrote about Damcıoğlu's cantos in more detail in a previous article.

I think Nurhan Damcıoğlu was a star, shining brightly over Turkey.

I will miss him very much, may he rest in peace.

Then a Metin Uca, a Köksal Engür, a Seda Fettahoğlu, a Yılmaz Gruda, a Can Gürzap, a Tanju Tuncel, a Cevdet Arıkan, a Rana Cabbar... and many more flew away, each of them as a shooting star.

For example, Burhan Çaçan from the world of music, what a beautiful voice he had and how beautiful he sang folk songs.

For example, there was Nuri Kaçtaş (Nuri Sesigüzel), his voice was also very beautiful.

All these stars and many more have passed away this year. May they all rest in peace.

Even though he was a falling star before, I cannot help but mention Neşet Ertaş.

None of these stars wasted their lives in this world.

They all have beautiful works they left behind. With today's digital recording opportunities, these works and themselves have become immortal. They will live on in the records forever. They will remain in our memories for as long as we live.

We, civil engineers, may create works that we are proud of, but the value of what an artist leaves behind is completely different, and no one usually remembers civil engineers for what they did.

They don't even let us into the buildings we built. After the employers take over the buildings, no one even knows the architect of most of the buildings, let alone remembering us employees individually.

Moreover, if what you build is something ordinary like a factory, an industrial building, or a house, no one will care about it.

You will be an architect and you will build a famous building, well, then architects have a chance to be remembered for their works.

But it is not nationwide, but only in the environments followed by those concerned.

Even from the 600-year reign of the Ottoman Empire, the only one who remains in mind is Mimar Sinan.

I mean, I can't say that even being an architect has much value in this world.

But being an artist is a completely different thing!

That's why artists' lives are private lives.

That's why artists should be above politics and their priority should be to live as role models for society.

That's why we need to protect our artists.

We have many artists who are in a difficult situation, perhaps struggling to make ends meet in these economic conditions. Let's take care of them.

I know there is an artists' union, but as far as I know, this union is polarized according to its political views.

Don't do it, it's a shame. Be above politics so that this society will remember you only with your stance and art.

After all, being an artist is something else!

Artists are stars that shine brightly in the sky.

Let me end the article by saying greetings to the floating gilts from here.

With love and respect to everyone from Moscow
