US Approves Ukraine to Procure F-16s from Denmark and the Netherlands

Nato members Denmark and the Netherlands are leading international efforts to train pilots as well as support personnel, maintain the aircraft and ultimately enable Ukraine to acquire F-16s for use in its war with Russia.

According to Reuters and The Guardian News Agencies, the US has authorised the delivery of F-16 fighter jets from Denmark and the Netherlands to Ukraine as soon as pilot training is completed.

Ukraine has long requested US-made F-16 fighter jets to help it counter Russian air superiority (see Ref.-1 for detailed information).

Washington has given official assurances to Denmark and the Netherlands that the US will expedite the approval of transfer requests once pilots are trained to fly the F-16s to Ukraine.

A coalition of 11 countries will begin training Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets in Denmark later this month.

The Dutch and Danish companies are also planning to employ retired Turkish Air Force aircraft maintenance technicians from Turkey to carry out maintenance and repair activities for the F-16s to be procured by Ukraine (See Ref.-2 for detailed information).
