Comprehensive Business Development Approach

In the business world, we can also discuss the tactics that companies implement in different areas and stages to achieve their strategic objectives, as well as the techniques used by their units. The company's strategic objectives are the key determinants in determining business development strategies. The type of business development, tactics and techniques may vary according to the company's overall growth and business development strategies.

In today's international security environment, the security of countries is directly related to their economic security. One of the most important elements of a secure and robust economy is well-managed companies that have defined growth strategies. Business development is at the forefront of the functions that will propel a company that has set sustainable, stable growth as its goal. Although often used in conjunction with marketing and sales terms, business development has a broader meaning. Marketing refers to promoting a company's services and products to its target potential customer base; sales refers to generating revenue through the sale of products and services; while business development, in short, refers to all the tasks that need to be done to grow a business. Company growth can take the form of increasing product type and variety, boosting sales and profitability, and establishing new business partnerships. In this respect, business development is one of the key elements supporting a company's achievement of its long-term goals. Achieving long-term goals requires strategic planning and the efficient use of allocated resources through appropriate tactics and techniques.

Strategy is one of the terms frequently used in everyday life. Its widespread use among the public leads to confusion with other terms used for similar purposes. Strategy is defined more as the art of managing national power elements and battles to achieve the long-term goals of states in international relations and war management. In general terms, strategy is the definition of how resources will be used to achieve long-term goals or objectives. Tactics are the paths and methods followed to achieve short-term goals. Techniques are the different ways in which resources are used within the tactics applied. In the business world, we can also talk about the tactics applied by companies in different areas and stages to achieve their strategic goals and the techniques used by their units. The company's strategic goals are the key determinants in determining business development strategies. The type of business development, tactics and techniques may vary according to the company's overall growth and business development strategies. Activities within the broad scope of business development and their place in these activities can be described as follows.

Strategic planning: Contributing to the identification of growth options and resources by setting long-term goals.

Establishing strategic partnerships and alliances: Seeking opportunities for new partnerships and collaborations that will secure mutual interests.

Strategic mergers and acquisitions: Seeking potential merger and acquisition opportunities in line with the company's goals.

Market research and analysis: Conducting research into new market opportunities, analysing the market and competitors, and developing and implementing entry and expansion strategies.

Identifying potential customers and converting them into customers: Identifying qualified potential customers, developing methods and techniques for converting them into customers, and directing sales activities.

Customer relationship management: Preparing programmes to retain existing customers and develop and deepen relationships, evaluating customer feedback to increase customer satisfaction, and directing customer relationship management.

Brand management and marketing: Preparing and implementing branding and marketing plans, directing the use of traditional and digital marketing techniques.

Corporate communications: Contributing to efforts to facilitate the company's communication with the public, institutions and other companies, promoting the company's principles and values, and protecting its reputation.

Production and quality: Contributing to the improvement of production planning and production processes based on customer feedback, including the use of new technologies and digital tools.

Human resources: Supporting personnel recruitment and personnel management in a manner that supports growth plans, including boosting morale and motivation, training, talent and skills development.

Product development and innovation: Conducting market research, evaluating customer feedback, and encouraging inter-departmental cooperation to increase product diversity, improve existing products, and develop new inventions in order to gain a competitive advantage in the market and better respond to customer needs.

Financial Process Management: Monitoring financial processes and providing necessary guidance for resource allocation.

Since the objective of business development is the growth of the company, a marketing and sales-focused approach alone will not yield the desired results. Business development is a comprehensive function that directs and manages efforts to maintain product and service demand, increase product diversity and efficiency, introduce new inventions and innovative techniques, and make inroads into different sectors and areas. Alongside marketing and sales, a cross-functional assessment and comprehensive approach involving R&D, production, finance, and human resources will enable the creation of a business development structure aligned with the company's objectives. A comprehensive business development approach requires decision-making and execution in close planning, coordination, and harmony with the activities of other units. Timely and accurate information sharing throughout all processes is essential for success.

In a highly competitive business world, companies can sustain their economic life by bringing their products and services to customers through an organisational structure tailored to market conditions. Long-term survival is possible by supporting strategic goals with well-prepared, detailed plans and implementing these plans meticulously. On this path to growth, a comprehensive business development approach with well-defined areas of relationship and cooperation with other functions will create a multiplier effect.
