Nobody Trusts Anyone. From where?

In the past, neighborhood grocery stores used to have credit books. You would trust the debt that the grocer had written down in his notebook, and he would trust that you would somehow pay for it. Now, if it's tight, go shopping without any money. They don't even give you bagels.

It's so hard to trust someone, isn't it?

I bought something from the market and the cashier didn't have enough change in the cash register, so I took out all the change I had to pay the fractional part of the fee, five, ten, fifteen, eighteen... four rubles were missing. I said it's not available, you find some change or I'll buy something from another nearby market, you give me the change, I'll stop by again and give you the remaining 4 rubles.

He stuck the two hundred rubles he was going to give me on the side of the safe and said, "I'll give you the change when you bring me four rubles."

***

Would you look at the situation!

He doesn't trust me for the 4 rubles I promised to bring, but he wants me to trust him for the 200 rubles I will receive.

Actually, I got angry for a moment, but I calmed down immediately.

After all, 200 rubles is not such a big amount of money, and its place is clear, and there is no way he will run away with 200 rubles.

No way, even if he put the money in his pocket saying no, I don't owe you two hundred rubles, when I bring the four rubles, that is, if he tries to lie, there is a camera on the cash register, if it comes down to stubbornness, I will be right.

If we look at the situation from his perspective, who knows how many people said "I'll bring it to you for three rubles or five rubles" but didn't bring it.

Imagine that every time you deliver the safe, it turns out to be slightly missing. They probably have to pay the missing portion out of pocket each time, and on top of that, suspicion arises: Is this cashier stealing from the cash register?

The customer said he would bring it, but he said he didn't. Maybe he's trying to nitpick, since the safe is missing every time?

I calmed down, thinking that the risk he would take by trusting me was much greater than the risk I would take by trusting him, and I said okay, I'll come see you soon.

But at the same time, this issue stuck in my mind. Probably his was learned justice.

I really thought to myself how much people have changed now, while looking at the shelves in the other supermarket.

It seems like yesterday to me, but I remembered almost forty years ago, how good human relations were back then, in fact they were even better long before I was a kid, how much people trusted each other before.

Now there has to be learned justice.

When I was a kid, neighborhood grocery stores used to have credit books, maybe they still exist among neighborhoods, I don't know about the old grocery stores, or in Anatolia, they probably still have them in neighborhoods in some cities.

Instead of saying "I'll bring it back in five minutes", you would just write down the remaining money in your notebook on credit and take whatever you needed home.

You would trust what he wrote in the notebook, and he would trust that he would somehow get his money from you at the end of the month or something.

If it bothers you now, go shopping without any money. Rather than having it written on credit, if you can get home without being robbed, all the better. If you take a step, they want money now, you can't get anything without paying for it. I'm sorry, you can't even meet your terrible needs without paying for them anymore, even latrines are working with cash.

On the other hand, he had to pay for the high cost of living. We now have to pay a lot of money just to dry ourselves, even toilet paper costs a lot of money.

We have credit cards!

Banks trust me! They gave credit card.

Yes, credit cards are truly a savior for many people, but I'll see if you pay it once. First, they impose the interest on your debt within the legal period, and after a while, the bailiffs come to your door anyway. You will be embarrassed when it comes to your neighbors.

Didn't they get the money from you too? They also have a solution now. It has been a long time since there have been new professions in the country. In the past, there were not many people applying for them. Now there are enforcement mafias like bailiffs in the country. Just keep trying, if you don't pay your debt, they will put a squeeze on your leg, and then you will be limping for the rest of your life. Even banks are now transferring the loans they cannot get back to such people.

I handed over the four rubles and took my 200 rubles back from the cashier.

But at the same time, I thought about it until I got home. What are we doing wrong?

Or is this exactly what should happen?

Humanity is developing and at the same time deteriorating.

It's the same not only in Turkey, but also here.

Like the figs the shepherd bought from the greengrocer in the town, then, when it was out of season, he went and bought an eggplant because it looked like a fig. When he bit into it on the road, he got sore from that tasteless, saltless eggplant, he said to himself that they made it longer, but they lost its taste.

That's the story. Lately, I've started to think that we are improving as time goes by, but we lose taste as we develop.

Of course, even though this grocery adventure of mine took place here in Moscow, I don't think the situation is very different in Turkey.

Maybe we are experiencing much sadder things in Turkey lately. Would you look for the one who slaughtered his tenants, the one who tried to turn little girls into brides, the one who set up a ponzi and cheated, the one who set up a fund and defrauded?

Don't trust anyone! It's like everyone was trying to deceive each other. Due to inflation, people don't even have a price level in their minds anymore, they are confused about what to do to make ends meet.

Am I wrong? What are you thinking? Don't you think society is in decay day by day?

I hope we will fix it in the future.

By the way, speaking of trust, read Dostoyevsky's novel "White Nights". It is a love novel, but it also examines people's trust relationship well.

With love and respect to everyone from Moscow.
