Analyzing Information

Let's say we have some information. What I am talking about will be considered a secret, not the kind of information we would call confidential. For example, at the beginning of each month, we wrote down the market prices of a kilo of apples for a year. I'm talking about information similar to this.

What could we do if we thought about analyzing this information?

First, I think we'll make a graph. I think we all know what a graph is. If we take a piece of paper and draw a horizontal line and a vertical line, call one month and the other price, when we divide both lines at regular intervals, we have prepared enough infrastructure to show the information we have graphically.

We will write the months and price levels under the horizontal line and outside the vertical line, it doesn't matter which one we write, then we will put the two pieces of information together and put a mark there. We will do this one by one for each month.

Here is the graph showing how the apple price in the market is moving on a monthly basis. Now, the information we gathered from the market took shape, it started to mean something to us. And if we combine the signs we have put on the chart we have prepared with a line, we can say that the annual chart of the apple price is ready. If we write "this is an apple monthly market price graph" in one corner of the paper, it means that the information at hand can be transferred to someone else who is interested in an understandable way.

So is that enough? No, if he stays at this stage, he might find a place for himself on one of the dusty shelves and be forgotten.

It is necessary to analyze the information. It is necessary to use the results of the analyzes for something useful in order to make our lives better.

I don't know, we started with an apple, maybe it takes some thinking to formulate how the price is moving throughout the year, this can be to take the average and examine its relationship with a flat trend line. Are prices increasing, decreasing or fluctuating? Maybe he's sitting on a curve formula. Maybe pear prices can be processed on the same chart and compared.

Then we can sit down and make an evaluation, we come to a conclusion, we prepare a report, we explain what can be done with this information in our report, these evaluations will be useful to someone.

Turkish Statistical Institute: Why TurkStat Data Matter

In all these analyses, our initial knowledge is clear, clear. Our analyzes have a basis. I set out with this information to anyone who wants, just because I reached this conclusion, we can clearly show the whole account. Therefore, knowledge evaluation is a scientific subject. It is not political.

The name of the institution responsible for collecting and analyzing this and similar information in our country is TÜİK, with its clear name "Turkish Statistical Institute". Its foundation dates back to the Ottoman period, 1891. We are an institution that was officially established in 1926 with the Republic. A republican institution.

It is an institution that should normally work with purely scientific methods, reveal the information that it clearly uses when necessary for the analyzes it makes, and look, I used this or that information, saying that the result is this, it should be above politics.

So is it? No! Why not? Because revealing information is probably not in the interest of those who run the country. I think they want to control the outputs of TURKSTAT or the information presented by TURKSTAT. From the perspective of the government, if you want to show the public that the government is "working well", Turkstat data is important. Because today, perceptual reality has taken precedence over reality. The time is "post truth" time.

When you can manage perception, you can manage people as you want. I think perceptual reality is the invention of the age.

Pointing to Reality or Truth:

Sometimes I watch old black and white American movies. A crime has been committed and the culprit has been caught. He confesses in court what he did and how he did it one by one. How funny to me. Is it so now? People have changed a lot. Even if you do it red-handed, deny it to the end.

Even in the earliest times when human beings took their place on the stage of history, they actually liked to dream. How beautifully our ancestors expressed their imagination in the makeshift wall drawings found in caves. But in many drawings only dreams are shown.

Because the truth hurts so much I guess. There are no drawings of someone crushed under the feet of a mammoth in the caves, or one tossed aside by the horns of a bull. But they made a drawing of how they hunted that mammoth. We are not so different today, in a sense, we tend to be deceived.

Those who follow my last posts will remember. In a total of 13 articles, I wrote down everything that a family of four should be able to live on, item by item. I made fine calculations and deduced what kind of income we should have under minimum conditions in order to live humanely. I did price research and eventually found a 'salary' that would allow for a decent living against the cost of living. I now have a level close to reality in my mind with its lack, excess and error. It didn't exist before, there was a voice coming out of every head.

Why Not Follow Politics Based on Real Data?

Although they know the truth, why do the rulers of the country do not want to see some truths? Why do they find such a low level of income sufficient for the majority of the population at this cost of living? Why don't they raise salaries to the level they should be? Where was the righteousness? Where is the income justice?

In my opinion, TurkStat is one of the most precious institutions of this country and should be above politics. It has to be an institution that only conducts scientific studies and provides accurate information to all of us, where everyone is sure of the accuracy of the studies, where no one has the slightest doubt about the analysis, and where everyone can get information with peace of mind when necessary.

For this purpose, it should be managed independently by experts in the subject and it should turn into an independent and scientific institution that determines its management staff by merit procedures. It needs to be saved from being an institution used by the government for perception management. Whoever is in power!
