Controlling Energy: Part-2

Thales has another famous theory, Thales predicts that the universe consists of the elements of earth, air, water and fire, and he thinks that these elements are constantly transforming into each other. In other words, he was the first to think about the conservation of energy, his was observation only, he did not fully perceive the subject.

In order to control something, you must first recognize it. So let's first try to understand what energy is.

Although energy remained a concept at first, it is the most needed thing in our language and life today. Even those who want to lose weight are constantly on their tongues.

"Do you remember how many calories were in a slice of apple? The apple we bought is very sweet, it has a very high calorie, I understood. A medium size apple slice should be 10 kcal, so is ours 15 kcal, will I eat lettuce again?"

These words are not foreign to dieters, are they?

A calorie is a unit of energy. It was first used in lectures as a unit of heat energy when talking about heat to Nicolas Clément students in France in 1819-1824. Inspired by the French word "calere", which means to warm up.

In fact, we ourselves are an energy, Einstein proved in his time, E = mc2. But let's not go into philosophy on energy-matter-human now. Let's focus on the energies we use and need.

Energy Types

We use different energies in our daily life, from the heat of fire to electricity. Energy in the universe never disappears, and in no way can it be created out of nothing. It's just that the energy types transform into each other.

The formula, which was found by the famous scientist Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, who lived between 1676-1689 for many years, on the conservation of kinetic energy, that is, the formula he called "vis viva" or "life force of the system" was used. But his formula does not cover all energy types. He worked mostly on kinetic energy. Throughout history, philosophers and scientists have made various observations and studies on this subject. William Rankine summarized the results of all their work, and William Rankine officially used the term "energy conservation law" for the first time in 1850.

While heat, or thermal energy, comes out of fire, there are also many other types of energy, that is, the types of energy are very diverse. There is chemical energy, there is electrical energy, there is radiation energy, there are many types of energy from nuclear to mechanics, from potential to kinetic, from sound energy to mass energy, magnetic energy.

The main types of energy we need in daily life are heat and electricity. And chemical and kinetic energy, i.e. nutrition and movement, both for the source of life and for living. In fact, nature has made electrical energy a part of life, and our nervous system works with electricity.

We first used fire for our heating need. We still use the wood, coal and other fossil fuels we obtain from nature for heating.

Nature, on the other hand, has created us and presented it to us by storing the radiant energy from the sun with the chemical transformation method it has found. Everything we eat, drink and burn is actually chemical energy stored in nature. We produce our life energy by first dividing this energy into parts with our digestive system and transforming it with chemical processes in our cells. In a sense, life actually means the conversion of chemically stored energy.

Human acquaintance with electrical energy, which is the other main energy type we use today, is actually very old.

I think we must have met electricity, that is, lightning and lightning, when we first gained consciousness. But this acquaintance is frightening and frightening, as if to say I love you more from afar. That's why the God in the Heavens has been the most powerful god throughout history. Not only with us Turks, but also in Scandinavia, ancient Greece, and other civilizations as well.

If we do not count the first man to be charred by a lightning strike, we have to establish our close friendship with electricity. We had to wait until 2750. In ancient Egypt, an article from these dates mentioned the shock effect of the electric eel. Of course, this information is the oldest information in written sources, and there was probably close contact with electric eels in earlier times when it was not written yet.

In written sources, it is mentioned that these fish are the protectors of other fish in the Nile river. It means that electricity scared the people of that time.

B.C. The Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus, who lived around 550-600 BC, is known as the first observer to conduct research on electricity. In those years, they discovered that amber or amber attracted bird feathers by applying it to cat hair. Thales tried to understand the reason for this, but could not. Probably other people interpreted it as doing magic. Of course, this is the first discovered electrostatic charge. We all know the electric jump that occurs when our finger touches something when we take off a woolen sweater.

The discovery of the electrical energy we use today will take many years.

Meanwhile, Thales has another famous theory, Thales predicts that the universe consists of earth, air, water and fire elements, and he thinks that these elements are constantly transforming into each other. In other words, he was the first to think about the conservation of energy, his observation was just observation, he could not fully perceive the subject.

Dear Cem Yılmaz, I do not remember which of these four elements he used instead of "wood" in his movie. I also love the 5th element movie. In that film, the subject is these four elements, and the fifth element is love, a beautiful film.

Let's put a comma here today. Tomorrow we will go a little further on energy.

Love and regards from Moscow
