How does a drip become a lake?

We say "moment", but it is not clear how long an interval of time we call "moment". Time is a difficult concept to understand. It just flows. In fact, they associate time with movement. It is said that if there is no movement, there is no time.

The tap's broken, it's dripping, can you fix it?

How is this dripping, it's literally running!

***

How do you know when it's dripping and when it's flowing?

Is this a question too!

If medicine does medicine, it means it is dripping, if the water is in a continuous flow, even if it is thin, then we say it is flowing.

If you want to look a little closer, you say it is flowing, but couldn't it be dripping one drop after another at very short intervals?

Of course it could be, but I think it is flowing!

I can already hear the sound of it.

***

Some things we call flowing. And some things drip.

Our ancestors did not say in vain that a drop becomes a lake.

In other words, it is more correct to say that something flows when it continues one after the other without interruption.

The traffic is so congested today, it is not flowing at all!

Look, we use the term "flowing" for traffic.

However, the essence of what we call traffic is vehicles. That is to say, the things we can count with numbers are vehicles. But when they come together, when they are travelling on a certain route, we say traffic is flowing.

Look, I didn't know whether to say grain or quantity for a moment. Tane is Persian and adet is Arabic! Isn't there a complete Turkish word for this?

Anyway, it means that what shows continuity when we say flow is actually movement, the movement of moving things does not necessarily include continuity, naturally, but when it includes continuity, we say it flows.

***

Isn't time one of those things that we say flows?

Is there a small form of time that we can count in grains like in traffic?

We say "moment", but it is not clear how long an interval of time we call "moment".

Time is a difficult concept to understand. It just flows.

In fact, they associate time with movement. They say that if there is no movement, there is no time.

That may be true! After all, we can perceive the progression of time only with the movement around us. If nothing moves, we are moving. At least our heart beats, we breathe.

Does light also flow?

We now know that light is composed of energy particles called photons, just like vehicles in traffic.

Photons are the smallest balls of energy.

In fact, Isaac Newton was the first person to think that light is composed of particles. The scientist who wrote the rules of classical physics after an apple fell on his head!

Although his idea was forgotten and it was accepted that light was a wave, in the 19th century, Max Planck first observed that light actually behaved like a particle in his experiments.

Those were the years when a lot of thought was given to light and a lot of experiments were conducted. As I have written before, scientists in those days thought a lot about the relationship between electricity and light.

Albert Einstein and Max Planck thought it appropriate to call light particles photons.

In fact, photon was not a word they made up; they were inspired by the Latin word phot: light.

However, it was a completely different person who first used the word "photon" in a document.

The American physicist Gilbert Newton Lewis, in his 1926 paper on relativity and quantum physics, described the smallest radioactive energy unit as "photon" for the first time.

Anyway, this is not about photons.

We have already looked at the difference between drip, i.e. a gradual progression, and continuity, i.e. flow.

Some concepts are really sometimes intertwined. In fact, it is not so clear when exactly these two are separated.

For some time now, I have been reading the ideas of scientists in the world of physics who are trying to find a single formula for everything. I cannot say that I understand much.

Many of them are trying to find such a magic formula that everything that happens in nature and the universe can be understood with this formula.

This idea also took Albert Einstein a lot of time.

If I am not mistaken, the late Hawking was also obsessed with this subject.

What they were obsessed with was the fact that gravitation could not fit into the formulae.

All the formulae of the quantum world, which is the magic concept of the last century, can be brought together and fit into a single formula, but gravitation cannot fit into this formula.

Everything except gravitation is compatible with each other, because as the name suggests, the quantum concept is a concept developed on particles, or particles. All quantum concepts except gravity are based on particles.

However, gravitation does not work on particles, so it does not fit into other formulae based on particles.

They call it the God particle, they say they have found it after all their efforts, but the results obtained when they put it into the formula and the results in the observations made do not coincide with the desired certainty. In other words, the so-called God particle is not a particle at all.

In the experiments, the effect called gravitational attraction seems to be a continuous effect like the flow of water.

***

A scientist who has written books on this subject (I think it must be Sean Carroll!) is complaining at a conference, he says, why are we forcing it?

He says that maybe we misunderstand something, maybe we need to change our point of view. He says that what is called gravitation may not be a form of interaction like other forces between subatomic particles.

He says that Albert Einstein himself had already realised this in the formulas he put forward, and that by calling the phenomenon space-time bending, he was actually referring to the fact that mass is a concept related to both the dimensions in space and the concept of time. Therefore, he says, no matter what is done to the particle formulae, they will not fit.

***

I tried to understand what you were talking about. But I can't say that I could understand much.

Einstein's concept of general relativity is a very complicated subject, the bending of light, the bending of time, the twins paradox and so on, these are quite heavy subjects. The human mind is not enough to grasp it after a certain point.

Although it really has the lowest intensity among the existing forces, the main thing we encounter when we say the universe is matter, and when we say matter, mass is the most important feature of the existence of matter.

In our daily lives, mass is the thing whose existence we can most easily understand. Everything we hold in our hands has a weight. The reason for this weight is gravitational attraction.

Another element of our daily life is electricity. Therefore, light. In other words, the electromagnetic force is an interaction that is present in everything. Chemistry.

The others, the weak and strong nuclear forces, are forces that we are not very aware of in our daily lives. Yes, they are frightening forces, especially the strong nuclear force, the atomic bomb!

The one whose cause is not fully understood is mass as we know it, I say as we know it, but in fact we don't know it yet.

Scientists have not yet been able to find the answer to this question, whether the so-called mass is formed drop by drop, or whether we feel that it exists due to the uninterrupted flow of a field of influence spread all around us in time.

They are trying! Surely someone will find an answer to this one day.

I'd better go and add some more coffee, there are still many videos to watch.

How many grams should I put? Coffee doesn't come in grams, does it? But coffee has a weight.

Stay with science.

Love and respect to everyone from Moscow.
