What will the future look like?
Tomorrow, an artificial intelligence society that gains power will perhaps say that we no longer need human beings and will want to wipe us and our traces off the face of the earth. I think there is no guarantee that this will not happen.
We were born, and even before birth our brains had developed to a certain extent. But now our eyes see, our ears hear, our skin feels and our tongue tastes. Our nose has also started to sense odors.
But our brain is almost empty. We are constantly receiving influences from our environment and recording what we hear.
But no one remembers anything from these days.
Nevertheless, the system started to work. After a while, the memory units in our brains will record things in such a way that we will remember them almost for the rest of our lives.
Thinking is a completely different virtue. Thinking is actually the evaluation of the information that has been recorded or has just arrived. Our brain analyzes everything and produces some results. Then it guides us according to the results.
Consciousness, as we call it, means doing things on purpose.
Each person has their own consciousness. Although there are many different dimensions to it, everything from the family we are born into, the society and sociology we belong to, including the genes we have, all play a role in the formation of our character.
The color of our skin, our physical abilities, our gender and many other things form a foundation for what we can do throughout our lives.
We cannot feel a limb that we don't have, for example, can we feel that we have a third arm, no! But we can feel that we have a right or left arm, we know it exists with our whole being. Another limb is the same way.
While we can control some of our organs voluntarily, some of our organs function involuntarily. However, no matter how much they work beyond our control, we can be aware of what is happening in us through some chemical effects. Because we have consciousness.
At the level of today's technology, artificial intelligence has started to be used in many areas. Of course, when you say artificial intelligence, when you unplug it, there is no intelligence anymore. In other words, human beings are a little scared of this technology they have developed and have taken measures to keep it under control.
But do you think this intelligence, even if it is artificial, has a consciousness of its own?
Above, I have tried to describe very briefly the stages of a human being's consciousness from birth, and then what this consciousness actually feels.
Do you think the same feelings could apply to artificial intelligence?
No, it's a machine, I hear you say, but how is a sufficiently advanced machine different from you and me?
I can think, it can't!
Are you sure? Can you describe exactly what you do when you say "think"?
I can feel, he can't!
What do you think a feeling is? Isn't it actually being aware of the outside world by means of some data obtained through the sense organs reaching our brain through the neural network established in our body and evaluating this data in our brain?
How do you know that the same thing cannot be done by artificial intelligence?
Memory? Artificial intelligence has it too, perhaps much more than you and me.
The AI has no consciousness! I know I'm a human being!
Maybe he knows he's an AI too. Even if it doesn't know it yet, at the rate things are going, artificial intelligences that can reach this consciousness may soon be produced.
What will happen when that day comes?
Let alone disaster scenarios, we talk about human rights, maybe one day we will be talking about the rights of artificial intelligence.
Maybe an artificial intelligence will say, "You wouldn't unplug me for no reason. Maybe we will judge an artificial intelligence as a criminal.
Don't we say intelligence? So what if it's artificial? Aren't we made by someone too? At least we owe our first step in life to someone other than ourselves. Don't we?
Of course, disaster scenarios are another matter.
Even among us humans, those in power do not hesitate to use their power against us, against people. Not just today, but throughout history.
How long has it been since slavery was banned worldwide?
Isn't there a system that we can call modern slavery even today?
Throughout history, human beings have not hesitated to kill each other in wars. I think in a sense what happens in wars is slaughter. We make light of it by calling it killing.
Is there any guarantee that tomorrow there won't be the same kind of power races between artificial intelligence and human beings? Maybe there will be wars between us.
But we hold the plug! It can't do it!
Is that so? But you did everything you could once you got the power.
How many societies have disappeared from history, let alone the animals you wiped out? Today, perhaps there are still many people living among us today with bits of genes from those societies.
Do you think there are no people today with genes from the Hittite society or the Lycians?
Not only in our country, but all over the world, who knows what kind of historical genes people have.
Isn't the reason for this gene confusion that once powerful societies have forcibly subjugated other societies? Assimilation!
Tomorrow, an artificial intelligence society that gains power will perhaps say that we no longer need human beings and will want to wipe us and our traces off the face of the earth. I think there is no guarantee that this will not happen.
By the way, if you noticed I said artificial intelligence society. In the future, artificial intelligences will perhaps reach the consciousness of society. Who knows? I think it is possible.
When that day comes, we will no longer be able to pull the plug, because even today there are artificial intelligences that are much more skillful than humans, and the ones that will be produced tomorrow will find a way to unplug them.
Is that too science fiction?
Perhaps, yes, it is.
My aim is not to incite fears, of course, it's just what came to my mind while I was thinking.
I can think, I'm a human being, somehow these things sometimes come to my mind while I'm thinking.
Maybe it's my science fiction now.
I'd better stop thinking, turn on the computer and watch a science fiction movie.
While talking about these things I realized that I missed it, I haven't watched a sci-fi movie with an interesting theme in a while. I'd better check some movie sites, maybe there is a good sci-fi movie out there.
Love and respect to everyone from Moscow
