Today is November 24th, Happy Teacher's Day

Yes, November 24th, 1928 is the anniversary of our great leader Atatürk being recognized by law as the chief teacher. But the celebration of this day as Teachers' Day was introduced by Kenan Evren with a regulation published in the official gazette on February 26, 1981.

The fact that we dedicate one day of the year to our teachers is actually very touching, despite all the injustices, all the persecution, all the wrong practices, everything.

Yes, November 24th, 1928 is the anniversary of our great leader Atatürk being recognized by law as the chief teacher. But the celebration of this day as Teachers' Day was introduced by Kenan Evren with a regulation published in the official gazette on February 26, 1981.

In fact, October 5, which many countries celebrated as Teachers' Day on the recommendation of UNESCO in 1994, is recognized as International Teachers' Day.

In fact, teachers' day is celebrated in many countries on different dates corresponding to their own important days.

For example, Azerbaijan followed UNESCO's recommendation and recognized October 5 as teachers' day. Although they also celebrate it on November 24.

Uzbekistan celebrates it on October 1. This day is also a public holiday. On November 24, there are also celebrations, although not official.

Kazakhstan, on the other hand, does not officially celebrate Teachers' Day. Although it is not an official holiday, there are universities and various organizations that celebrate November 24 as Teachers' Day in terms of good relations with Turkey.

Kyrgyzstan is the same, although it is not an official holiday, there are celebrations on November 24.

Turkmenistan, on the other hand, celebrates both October 5 and November 24 even though they are not official holidays.

In Cyprus, as in our country, November 24 is teachers' day. Although one or two teachers' organizations do not participate in the celebrations because the day was declared a celebration day by a coup d'état.

I completed my education years, especially until the end of secondary school, in different cities and in different schools even if they were in the same city.

For example, I attended primary school in three different schools.

I don't even remember my class teacher at İsmet İnönü Primary School in Erzurum where I attended the first year. I remember that my teacher at Şeker Primary School in Adapazarı was a grumpy person. Anyway, what I remember from those days are mostly memories with friends from the neighborhood.

But Ahmet Akkoç Primary School in Adapazarı, where I attended the fourth and fifth grades of primary school, is completely different. Both my classmates and my beloved teacher, I salute my teacher from here, I kiss her hands. Although we did not get along well with the principal of our school, I remember him very well.

During my middle school years, I had many teachers whom I loved very much. I don't know if they still exist now, I started middle school at the Private Sakarya Middle School in Adapazarı, but after the first year I had to continue at the Izmit Middle School because we moved to Izmit. I had my favorite teachers in both schools.

Both educational institutions are full of unforgettable memories for me, and their unforgettable teachers.

Although today is teacher's day, let me also talk about something I read recently. The famous topic, the government's 4+4+4 education system.

I was wondering why the government is so insistent on this issue. What is their aim?

Supposedly, their aim with this system is to separate children according to their interests after the first four years, to subject them to a different education according to their interests in the second four years, and to prevent the excessive accumulation in universities by providing vocational education according to their interests in the last four years.

Of course, anyone can believe this explanation. As the saying goes, it's all in the eye of the beholder.

I do not have pedagogical formation. I did not graduate from the faculty of education, so I am actually a bit hesitant whether I should comment.

Nevertheless, let me write my own opinion.

Yes, the explanation for the current system sounds good. But the counter-thesis of uninterrupted education is not really a counter-thesis. So they are both different issues. It is also possible that the 4+4+4 education system will be uninterrupted, and it may even be mandatory for it to be uninterrupted.

There would be no problem if the issue had an innocent purpose as it is said to have. I mean really, children show their interests at a young age. It is the right point of view that they should be guided according to their interests at a young age.

When I was young, after primary school, my brother said one day, let's enroll you in the conservatory, I'm good with music.  My brother and I are very close, he is more like a father to me than a brother. Since my mother didn't want it, the conservatory plan fell through. At that age, I didn't think much of it, I didn't even know what a conservatory was.

I would say that at that age, children's interests and talents are already clear. It is the right idea that they should be guided.

However, if we look at the issue from a state perspective, this requires planning. The state should plan what young minds should deal with in the future. So whatever system you bring in without a plan is useless.

But is just a plan enough? I think there is no point in making a plan if you are not going to follow it.

You need to create the necessary groundwork to be able to comply with the plan, that is, to realize the plan. You will create new job opportunities accordingly, you need to adjust even birth rates accordingly. You need to set budgets according to the plan. You need to establish educational institutions according to the plan. It is necessary and necessary.

In other words, the plan should be a comprehensive plan.

But has this been done in all these years?

If it could have been done, unemployment rates wouldn't be so high right now.

Not to mention our failures in international exams in terms of education level.

In my opinion, this is not an issue that can be solved only within the Ministry of National Education. If I have made myself clear, you understand that I am talking about a nationwide organization and education policy.

The village shows that we still have a long way to go in this regard.

I don't know if one day someone will realize the seriousness of this issue and develop a proper plan, God knows.

Yes, today is teacher's day, happy teacher's day!

I respectfully commemorate all the teachers who have passed away, especially the head teacher Atatürk.

I kiss the hands of all our teachers who continue their labor or who have retired to rest.

They have worked very hard to raise us. There are still many teachers who are devotedly working to raise the young and the young at heart.

I thank them all from the bottom of my heart.

Love and respect to everyone from Moscow
