I Need Business, Not Mind

Field Experience:

I once had a construction site supervisor at the construction site, he used this phrase, saying, “I need a job, not a mind.”

Those who deal with construction know that construction requires serious discipline and experience. Because it is dangerous. Besides, we do such a dangerous job not only for us, but almost all over the world, with a very uneducated workforce, so it's not like any other normal job, it requires more attention, occupational safety, quality or knowledge. It is related to people both during and after construction, it is human life, the results of poor quality construction require responsibility.

When they are very young, sometimes even at a young age, a relative drags many of them both to have a job and to help with work, they are uneducated, ignorant. First, they do errands in the team, sometimes they are given a shovel, they dig, they make concrete decisions, they carry mortar. We call them straight workers, workers.

In the team, they first become masters over time, if their minds work a little as they get older, and if they have gained enough experience in these jobs over the years, they become the head of the team, we call them journeymen. If we are going to describe a job, we tell the journeyman, he distributes the masters and assistants and gets the job done.

First Contact of Engineers and Regimental Journeymen:

Usually, a young civil engineer who has just finished school starts working directly on the construction site. Although I didn't do that, first I worked in the project office for a long time, then I started working at the construction site, and I saw a lot of benefits. But as I said, our young engineers generally prefer to work right on the construction site. Offices don't make money, I guess that's partly why.

These young engineers, who are the management staff that our experienced journeymen in the field have to work with, are still very inexperienced in construction, and they see the journeymen as 'brothers' in the work rush of the construction site, before they can figure out what they learned at the universities. All this time, with their experience in construction works and the inner confidence their age has given them, journeymen have various ideas. Usually their ideas are right, they know practical construction solutions with years of experience. Of course, it is not always true what journeymen say and know. But they usually continue to criticize young engineers who do not have enough experience yet. In a sense, young engineers become toys in the hands of journeymen at the construction site. As a result, a war of authority begins between young engineers and journeymen, of course, unwittingly, when engineers get used to the job, they reveal their authority.

Listening Ability:

I don't know if this is the reason, he suffered a lot from the journeymen at the time. That's what he used to say at the construction site. It's very rare, but I've also heard it said once or twice to the journeyman if it's a good idea and if he can say it quickly, sometimes it's ok, do that.

I listen to all of them patiently, I think I'm a little more patient, everyone has a different character. But sometimes they come up with such ideas that it doesn't cross my mind if I should apply my chief's tactic.

In fact, when we explain to our engineer friends what we will do from the beginning, on the project, in the evening, in the meeting environment, there is no such thing as a statement of opinion. Everything is resolved in detail overnight. Everyone goes about their business during working hours the next day.

Everyone thinks in some way, good or bad, we all have different opinions. Mankind does not like to keep his opinion to himself, sometimes he always says it with good intentions, maybe for the benefit of others. It's not hard to say, most of us can speak if we don't have a disability.

Telling, Expressing:

Now I think of the late Stephen Hawking, who knows what was going through his mind, even he found a way to share his ideas with people, no matter how difficult it was. Maybe he could not convey all of them, but he conveyed enough to have an important place in history. His ideas and fears about artificial intelligence are interesting, for example. When you hear it from such a smart person, a question mark comes to mind. I still have that digital voice in my ears. I love the movie about his life, I open it occasionally and watch it over and over again.

If we go back to our subject, some of them are just a habit of expressing ideas, it is not known whether they can't help themselves, they are talking, they are constantly generating ideas, many of them are irritable. Sometimes he talks about such people just for the sake of saying, no matter how patient I am, I can't stand them when I meet them. I guess I'm getting old now.

There are also gossippers, who don't care about gossip wherever they go, they literally can't hold back. Even if they add it sometimes, they don't have their own ideas, of course, what he said, what he did, it's just transference, gossip. It's not a bag, as the old saying goes, you squint your mouth, some people talk, you have to be careful.

I think it's reasonable, as the old saying goes, shut up nine times and speak once. First you will weigh it in yourself, what you will say, then you will say it. You will have a weight.

Those Who Gossip at Work:

What I have mentioned so far are well-intentioned, there are also dangerous ones.

Some of them say something just to make a mess, they let it go wrong, usually on purpose, in order to harm the other person, to cause strife. Such people do not give color, they pretend to say something good. And if he is naive, he immediately believes, these are the most dangerous ones.

Such people are a separate case, of course, especially if they are someone who has enough power and means, they can be effective, they can even cause lynching, this is human beings, of course, as I said, they believe in almost everything. Social psychology is also effective. Since no one thinks with their own mind, does not want to think, and it is difficult to think, everyone prefers to do what they do, like a herd. Humans like to lynch, maybe we are also influenced by our genes from our hunting past. This may be the reason.

After all, we are all different, there are those among us who have different structures.

It's okay if the ideas that form in our minds and develop over time stay where they are, but as I said, whatever the reason may be, they are put into words, with our tongue or with our pen.

Freedom of expression:

Some people do not like what we express, our ideas, even if you perceive it as a threat to yourself, especially if you are talking about mistakes made, if you are voicing undesirable truths. That's when the bans and inhibitions begin.

Ideas are formed in our minds, but not out of the blue, if everything stops for a moment, we do not realize the flow of time. Maybe time is relative in that sense. Anyway, let's not get into the time issue now, maybe later, at a more appropriate time.

Ideas are formed in our minds with various effects. Our senses from the outside world are constantly triggering something. Sometimes this trigger is a bowl in the bath, you go out into the street naked without realizing anything else, shouting that you found it. Sometimes, maybe there is a round stone falling from the mountain, the round stone becomes a wheel, then with our ideas, I think the wheel is still the greatest invention of human history.

Our thoughts turn into ideas in a way, in our minds, they are formed somehow.

They say freedom of thought, I think it's wrong definition, everyone is free and free to think for himself. Thought is a process that humans do with the brain. As long as it is remembered, no one can hear, feel, or say anything about it. Only those who know each other well may realize that you are thinking about something. And if we see someone sitting on the side without doing anything, with his arm propped up with his chin, what do you think? They're working on it, but scientists haven't figured out mind reading yet.

That's why I think the correct definition should be freedom of expression. The freedom in question should be able to transform what you think into words and words and freely express your opinion. There is no harm in expressing one's opinion anyway, but freedom of expression still scares some people.

Ideas Are Not Dangerous:

Ideas are not dangerous, they should be freely spoken and expressed.

Especially when one of the most important income sources of our age, and perhaps the only indicator of being a developed country, was to produce new ideas, let's let ideas be produced, everyone, especially fresh minds and our young people. Let's offer opportunities to our young people, let's listen to them as much as we can.

Work is also very important, but I also need reason, I need ideas. I will listen patiently as always. I recommend it to all. If we can learn to listen first, maybe we can guide some people, and those who hold power can learn to listen, too.
