How to Increase Children's School Success?

Parents are responsible for student failure. Some families do their best for the failure of their children without being aware of this fact. Parents with this orientation need to know some of their misbehaviors and correct these mistakes. Otherwise, they will harm themselves and their children.

When We Educate Our Children, Can We Understand Them?

Education; It encompasses a much broader process than learning to read, write, or remember some information on a particular subject. As parents, who constitute an important part of the learning process, as teachers do at school, we have to set right examples in all our activities and make significant contributions to our child's education.

Do we adults - those who are in the situation of structuring and directing the child - know and understand children? Is our impact on them always positive? Are we charting for them the path to a brighter tomorrow or does this road lead to an unknown? The answers to these questions show that child education is a very broad field of science.

Here, I would like to share knowledge and experience about the causes of failure in school, which is an important subject of child education, and how they can be eliminated.

How to Eliminate the Causes of Children's Failure in School?

Familial Causes:

Parents are responsible for student failure. Some families do their best for the failure of their children without being aware of this fact. Some misbehaviors of parents with this orientation are as follows:

• Fighting in front of their children, living a restless and disorderly life,

• Leaving their children at home and going for a walk almost every evening,

• Not giving the necessary importance to the health of their children,

• Not being able to show the necessary love and affection to their child,

• Not being able to provide a comfortable, bright and quiet workplace for the child,

• Dealing with the difficulties of children only at the end of the year,

• To stay away from the process of recognizing the interests and abilities of their children, sharing them with the teacher and guiding them,

Now let's focus on what we should do as parents:

• We should not forget that we are responsible for our child's failure before the teacher.

• The family hearth is actually a home where feelings such as compassion, love and happiness are fused. If we, as parents, do not understand these facts and engage in non-educational behaviors while raising the child, we will prepare ourselves for failure.

• The family hearth is a friendly environment where everyone shows themselves as they are. For this reason, we need to know our child more than anyone else. By enlightening the teacher with our knowledge and making use of what the teacher knows, we can establish a good educational partnership.

• Many parents say to their children with broken grades: “It's not shameful, we did whatever you wanted. Don't pass a class, you'll see then. Look how proudly so-and-so's child passed. They use non-educational expressions that hurt the child, such as “Even your brother will almost catch up with you”. It is not right to insult our children like this. Instead of saying harsh words to them: “I was wondering why you failed this lesson? I trust your intelligence and hard work. Did I not help you enough? What does your teacher think about this? Let's talk to him," will be a healthier way.

• We should help our child make a study schedule.

Success will not come to your child only by buying books, notebooks and pens. If you want your child to be successful, you should devote some of your effort, time and knowledge to them.

Environmental Causes:

Like the family, the environment also plays a major role in school success. The most important environmental reason that affects the success of the student is the friend. Bad friend is the source of bad habits. Besides those who study under the influence of their friend and pass their class, there are many intelligent students who cannot achieve the success they deserve because of their mischievous and truant friends. For this reason, you should be very careful in choosing friends. As parents, we need to know who our child is friends with and carefully monitor the status of their friends.

The fondness for cinema is also a reason that affects the success of the student. In fact, a good movie is a valuable educational tool, like a school, that raises the knowledge of young people. However, some movies have a negative impact on our children's morals and success at school. That's why we should take our child to movies that we choose well. Thus, we can both use our free time effectively and create an educational environment for our child.

Coffee, parlor games and similar bad habits are also among the reasons that prevent the student from working. If we don't watch where our child goes, we end up beating our knees.

In order to save our young people from these wrong attitudes, we should accustom them to regular work and organize tours of the surrounding libraries, various art exhibitions and performances, environmental trips, vineyard gardening, etc. We have to get them to deal with it.

School-Based Reasons:

Our schools also have faults that cannot be underestimated when students fail. Some of these are those:

• Some school administrators have a very harsh attitude and some show a very soft attitude,

• Teachers' failure to deal with students' education and training as much as they should,

• Arranging the weekly lesson programs in a uniform manner, not according to the working and learning abilities of the children,

• Very little observation and experimentation in lectures; the inability to benefit from working areas such as libraries, laboratories and workshops as much as necessary,

• Failure to create an objective and common attitude that all teachers unite in grading styles.

What should we do in the face of these problems? Admittedly, there are three great partners in the learning process: the child, the school system, and the parents. Therefore, school-family cooperation is extremely important. All children benefit from school-family cooperation. Within the scope of school-family cooperation; We can use approaches such as working together, organizing interviews, and setting goals together with the school.

Important Points for Parents to Consider

One of the greatest rewards for a family is having a child. Each child has their own unique interest, ability, learning style and pace. In addition, all children have common characteristics. In this context, we can summarize the important points that parents should pay attention to in order to increase the educational success of children as follows:

• Children's learning speeds and abilities are different. Every child develops in a unique way and way. School and family cooperation is very important in the process of recognizing the child's interests, abilities and behavior.

• Children are successful when they do what they enjoy. Children need to be given the freedom to make their own choices.

• The respect we show our children gives them the confidence they need to move into new areas.

• Children who prefer projects that require precision, accuracy and order often need time and places to work where they will not be disturbed.

• The child needs to be there to talk and the parents to listen. This time spent for the child supports his self-confidence.

• The greatest gift and support that families can give to children is unconditional love.

• Children should be encouraged to continue their efforts if they fail. Thus, they can be prevented from falling into learned helplessness.

• The best example we can give to our children is our family life. Often a child's best role model is their own family. Parents have to be good role models.

• Every child has the ability to ask questions, learn and think creatively. They need fast communication skills in the age of fast technology.

• Motivation is the most powerful source of learning.

Conclusion

Children need healthy societies and societies need children with bright futures. The education system, teachers, and most importantly, parents have a great influence on raising healthy, enlightened children.
