An Exciting Lifestyle of Uncertainty

When we are young, we make a lot of plans and develop designs for the future. But things never go as we planned and expected. Because life is chaotic and uncertain by nature.

If we were endowed with the ability to ‘know everything in advance’, life would be monotonous, in other words, nothing but a repetition of a routine. We are sure of this. Knowledge eliminates uncertainty for the knower. This philosophical statement is true. In fact, nobody knows the future. We, who are mostly incapable of knowing even the moment we are witnessing, can be seen as a kind of ‘waste of time’ when we are interested in events that have happened or will happen in the past or in the future. Because when we tell stories, listen to stories or make predictions about the future, we lose the present.

It is of course important to learn from history, but since we do not witness what happened in the past, we often cannot go beyond speculating about what really happened. We linger in times that do not belong to us. However, the moment that is ours is the present moment. The moment we are living. The present is precious, perhaps because it is the time that is ‘most obvious’ to us.

We humans don't like uncertainty, because our mind wants to relax by believing that it knows. However, in fact, certainty is not possible for us in any area of life. Especially when it comes to the future, this is out of the question!

There is a beautiful saying among the people. ‘God laughs when the servant makes a plan’, if you are old enough to experience that the plans you have made have never been implemented, you can feel this saying deeply. When we are young, we make a lot of plans and develop designs for the future. But things never go as we planned and expected. Because life is chaotic and uncertain by nature. Certain causes do not lead to certain results, the causes we think are certain always lead to uncertain results, because the variables in the equations of life are infinite. When one element changes, the whole result changes and you find yourself in a completely different place that has nothing to do with your plan.

So what are we going to do? Should we not work and strive, set goals and make plans in order to manage our lives, to build our future? Even if we say we don't, we will do it, because our mind is programmed to make designs about the future. Its algorithm is designed accordingly. Since overcoming this way of working of the mind is not the work of every brave man, what are we ordinary people going to do?

For myself, I think that the best way to make life livable is ‘uncertainty’. First of all, we must accept uncertainty, it is a law of life. Uncertainty is as natural as birth and death. And then we should learn to enjoy uncertainty! How?

We can look forward to the next events of our lives like watching an adventure film and enjoy this uncertainty. Instead of trying to plan what will happen to us in life, we can accept chaos as the principle of the cosmos and perceive uncertainty as an adventure. This is the triangulation point of the lifestyle I have chosen! Don't say that some people don't like adventure, everyone likes a little excitement.

It is not enjoyable to watch a film where you know the end, isn't it? The same is true for our lives. And don't you think it would be very boring to know what is going to happen next? Let's embrace the beloved uncertainty that makes life colourful and turns it into a learning process for us! Thus, let's make our lives more livable and enjoyable.
