There Is No Such Thing As Square Of

In the conversations I had with the head of the branch of the institution in Trabzon, I always received a negative answer and no landing field. At least, if there is a 50-meter-long plain on the surrounding fields or gently sloping slopes, I asked it to be shown with fire and smoke, I said that if I found it suitable for landing, I would land. Because Trabzon was an intellectual, wealthy, large and important city that could not be neglected.

After Fatsa, we cannot find a place to go down to Vakfikebir.

After Fatsa, our campgrounds Ordu and Trabzon were not suitable for landing, and we visited Vakfikebir, Persembe, Bulancak, Giresun, Tirebolu and Görele from the air, as there was no possibility of landing at the same pace.

Since Ordu is the city center, I really wanted to go there. For this, I searched for a place by flying over Ordu for a long time, but I continued on my way sadly because I could not find it. Finally, I was able to land in Vakfikebir.

Although I made our propaganda in this small town in a positive way as per our program, I was very tired and upset because I wanted to go to Trabzon.

We take off for Trabzon on 12 September 1931.

With the sincere farewells of the people of Vakfıkebir, we said goodbye and got up from the ground and came to Trabzon. I couldn't see any vitality here on behalf of the institution, due to the message, but the city was lively and crowded. We were scattering our confetti, greeting the people on the road. At the same time, I began to look for a suitable landing site. During this research, I saw smoke on the slope east of Trabzon Stream and turned the plane in that direction. This smoke, which I thought was a landing sign, was a fire burned by a shepherd to warm up, but I saw that this field with grazing sheep was partially flat. After examining the flight situation on this sloping field, I completed the transformation by tilting my plane to the sea side. At that moment and at full throttle, it started to approach the field, and in this case, while the plane was climbing the slope at minimum speed, I turned off the ignition of my engine with the wheels touching the ground, and the plane stopped without walking five meters because it was on an uphill descent.

This area was not really a place suitable for landing, landing was as difficult as landing was extraordinary daring, and it would not have been possible to gather our people here. For this reason, I left the plane where it was and came to the grassy place that I saw on the beach from the air and there were bumps in it, this was the eastern outer edge of the brook. The people of Trabzon, who saw and heard the landing of the plane, began to come in droves. Our venerable people gathered with flags in their hands, the joy of seeing the plane was endless. In this friendly atmosphere, after removing the obstacles in this square with the help of our people, I took off again on the mountain, took off the plane and landed on the beach.

In this way, it was possible to both cultivate the aviation feelings of our people and to satisfy the citizens' desire to fly by making many propaganda flights. The income provided by my speeches in Trabzon's social communities and cultural centers was remarkable. This event showed very well how a little self-sacrifice could yield positive results in terms of propaganda operations.

We Take Off For Of On September 13, 1931.

When we ascended with the farewells of the people of Trabzon, the weather was calm and warm, we were going to visit Of and Rize on our route to the east and we would stay in Of. This was the last stop of our shore excursion. During the whole journey, we greet even the smallest communities and made long, long flights in Of and then in Rize, and we returned to our town of Of and found the place where the people gathered.

This is a small plain surrounded by small heaths, and our citizens of Oflu left a small field in the middle of it. They thought that I would land like a bird at that point. I expected them to disperse while flying over them, but since there was no movement, I wrote on a piece of paper and asked them to clear the square, and they dispersed. After examining the ground and the height of the heather again, I decided to land. Turning from the depths of the Valley of Of, I come to the descent towards the sea, I saw that I could not fit, I took the tour by giving gas, the same result in the second descent. The field is so small that it is impossible to fit in. But I have to land because our fuel stock (refueling point) was here.

Obligation to Land of Of and Cabotage of the Aircraft on Landing

Since I made my flights according to this calculation, I couldn't stay in the air any longer, my plane was like a leaf on the seventh landing, and I approached with air brakes with all the controls, and I turned off my ignition saying whatever the result, my wheels had touched the ground, the plane crashed in the softness of the ground before I walked even five meters on the ground. suddenly stopped and the tail began to rise into the air. This tail lift took a spin around the axis of my mud-drenched wheels, and finally the bow was in place. This state is called cabotage in aviation. I was startled and I couldn't help but say "Oh!" I cried.

A voice; “Yes, here.” Yeah! Oh, the name of this place is literally nothing more than an expression of disappointment and sadness. Our people learned that the place where the plane will land should be soft, this advice was the directive of the head of the branch, and the people obeyed this directive and especially mud was made by carrying a lot of water to the landing site. Unfortunately, this event, which caused some controversy, was not a pleasant situation.

We were able to pass to Trabzon by sea

In this incident, the engine stand and other parts of the plane were damaged, in this case, I decided to disassemble the plane and take it to Trabzon for repair, and we could only make this transportation by sea.

When I arrived in Trabzon, my first job was to investigate the technical capacity of the environment. All the workshops I visited were completely primitive and pathetic. However, there were also valuable masters who were devoted to their profession. In my contacts, I accelerated the repair work in order to identify the available opportunities and not to interrupt our trip. The first thing I did was normalize the motor connections neatly on a lathe. After solving this problem, the engine stand failure was also resolved and my plane was prepared for flight again. I too was at peace. The reassembly, preparation and test flight of the aircraft had connected us to Trabzon for a week. However, during this one-week period, I was trying to caress the aviation feelings of the young people of Trabzon in repair works during the day and at various meetings organized by the institution branch at night.
