Cosmography book written by Atatürk
Cosmography was dictated by Ali Yar Bey in 1929 at Atatürk's request. Planets, how the seasons are formed, what is a black hole, the thoughts of all experts starting from Aristotle, from Copernicus to Galileo, and everything from the map of the Milky Way was included in this book. It was taught as a compulsory subject in all high schools from 1933 until 1979.
The Most Genuine Guide in Life is Science!
Mustafa Kemal Atatürk…
Founder of Turkish Republic…
He has a very beautiful saying: "The truest guide in life is science!"
How can a man be a political and military genius and yet be so charismatic?
We learn new information about him every day. Every new piece of information we learn helps us find answers to these questions.
I stumbled upon it while surfing social media the other day.
Shared by writer and screenwriter Tolga Aydogan.
I was intrigued as I heard it for the first time.
I also want to share with you:
“I've been struggling for a long time to find this book. I finally found it in a shop.
Cosmography Book:
It's called Cosmography. The first astronomy book in Turkey. The first edition was made in 1929. What I found is the 1933 edition. Its author is Ordinaryus Prof. Dr. Ali Yar.
8 years before this book was written, there was only 48 kuruş in the safe of the Ankara Government. Fighting against occupation forces, poverty, ignorance and disease; After the war, the debts of the Ottoman Empire were paid, on the other hand, the Republic was built with science and art, factories were built, operas were represented, students were sent abroad for education, and an exemplary country was created.
At that time, people thought the earth was flat or that the bull stood on its horns. What is astronomy, nobody knew. But one person knew the importance of it. There is no other example in the world, a statesman printing an astronomy book.
Ataturk Prof.Dr. Ali YAR's Cosmography Book:
Yes, Cosmography was dictated by Ali Yar Bey in 1929 at Atatürk's request.
Planets, how the seasons are formed, what is a black hole, the thoughts of all experts starting from Aristotle, from Copernicus to Galileo, and everything from the map of the Milky Way was included in this book. It was taught as a compulsory subject in all high schools from 1933 until 1979.
The author of the book, Ali Yar Bey, after graduating from Mektebi Sultani, that is, Galatasaray High School, graduated from Paris Aircraft High School in July 1912 and became one of the top three aircraft engineers in the world.
He gave algebra and astronomy lessons in the mansion of the Darülfünun, that is, Istanbul University, which was known as Zeynep Hanım Mansion at that time. He also wrote this book at Atatürk's request. A surprise awaited me when I opened the historical Cosmography book from the second-hand booksellers.
Surprise Name on Back Cover of Cosmography Book:
A name was written on the back of the cover, indicating who it belonged to. This book belongs to a person with school number 275 in Istanbul Higher Teachers' School in 1933; His name is Fahrettin Akbulut. Who is this person?
He will later become an important professor of mathematics, will teach at Ege University, and will endear mathematics to young people in Turkey.
One day, Fahrettin Akbulut's child goes through the library shelf at home. He sees the cosmography book. Takes examines the book I currently have. He became interested in astronomy when he saw photographs of sky maps, telescopes, planets and the universe in it. What happens next?
He graduated from the University of California (Berkeley) with a degree in Mathematics. At the University of Wisconsin, he rose to the rank of professor at Michigan State University.
“Is the space we live in natural Euclidean (Euclidean) space or is it a false copy of it?” He searches for the answer to the question and manages to find the predicted solution of British Astronomy Professor Zeeman in 1963.
For this reason, it has won many awards. One of them is TÜBİTAK Science Award. Turkey's trained and world-renowned Professor Dr. Fahrettin Akbulut's son, Prof. Dr. Selman Akbulut is crowned with international awards for his work in mathematics and astronomy.
Father Fahrettin and his son Selman made important studies in the field of mathematics and astronomy. Here is the importance of the Cosmography book. The name that Fahrettin, a high school student with school number 275, scribbled in the book takes us on such a journey.
The Cosmography Book Opens the Horizon to Selman Yar:
This book is instrumental in turning a small child into a world-renowned scientist after it fell into the hands of Selman. What if this book had not been written by Atatürk to Ali Yar Bey?
What if Fahrettin Akbulut hadn't read this book at the Istanbul Higher Teachers' School? If his son Selman hadn't seen this book afterward, he wouldn't have been as enthusiastic about astronomy...
Here is an example of why Atatürk was a great person. Atatürk turned his face to science. He said that the future is in the skies.
Craters in the Moon Photo in the Cosmography Book:
Perhaps the most beautiful nuance is the craters in the Moon photo in his Cosmography book.
You ask why? In 1956, Dr. Hugh Percy Wilkins named a crater on the Moon after Atatürk, whom he respected greatly. Did you know that a crater on the moon is named after Atatürk?
Please read this article for those who do not understand Atatürk, those who do not appreciate him.
At least, you will be able to show the embodiments of the words “The Most Genuine Guide is Knowledge” and “The Future is in the Skies.”
Conclusion:
As a result; It is the science, science and production philosophy put forward by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who will get our country out of the economic deadlock it is in. Of course, we should never compromise on the elements of merit, honesty and experience in the managerial sense.
