Our Changing Communication Culture with the Digital Age

How much easier life has become nowadays, right?

We can now talk to the person we want immediately from the other end of the phone as soon as we think of them. 

I remember when I was a child and we could make a few minutes phone call after hours by dialling a number in advance.

Now, let alone talking on the phone, we can also make video calls if we want. 

Isn't that nice?

Although video calls were quite costly in the early days. 

The phone tariff was quite high when you made video calls frequently.

But now almost everyone has smartphones and we can talk to the person we want to talk to over the internet connection, wherever he/she is in the world, by paying only the internet connection fee (with various call programmes).

A great convenience indeed!

In many places it is already possible to get an unlimited internet connection for a small fixed monthly fee.

At least this is the case in Russia.

We pay only 650 roubles per month for the internet connection at home. With today's exchange rates (TL / ruble exchange rate 3.38) 192 lira 30 kurus.

They say that internet connection is problematic in Turkey, so they do not make enough infrastructure investment.

In the world, these services are both cheap and very fast!

I like texting more on the phone. 

Everyone has a thousand things going on. 

Whatever you want to say, send a message and let the person you send a message to look and read it when it is convenient. 

I think this is a much more civilised way of communication.

You can also leave a voice or video message. All are possible with today's technology.

If the person you send a message to wants, it is also possible to talk directly by phone at a convenient time when both of you are available. 

However, as I said, especially if what you are going to convey is a short information, you already convey it instantly by message.

Then it is also possible to write something with these so-called smart phones. 

It is now possible to keep some notes, write articles, maybe even write novels with these tiny devices.

One sometimes marvels, really, how technology has progressed so far, one cannot believe it.

I was watching an old film recently. 

A writer was having a hard time writing his novel on his typewriter.

He couldn't write the place he came to in his novel the way he wanted, so he took the paper out of the typewriter, took it out, crumpled it up and threw it around.

Is it like this now? 

If you make a mistake in what you write, go back and correct it. Writing programmes are designed for this.

Even if you don't make a mistake, if you want to rewrite a part of what you have written, it is possible to change it in any way you want at any time. 

Delete any part of what you have written and rewrite it in a different way. 

Everything is so easy now!

You don't have to put paper in the typewriter again and again and write that page all over again.

No need for paper costs either!

In fact, paper has been out of circulation in the lives of many of us for a long time.

For example, I haven't used paper for a long time.

I don't even use handwriting.

When I think that even books were once written by hand, I feel like saying where to!

The last time I used handwriting was when I filled in the blanks on the ready-made petition when I was doing the session procedures here. 

So we almost don't use handwriting either.

My handwriting is not very good, especially in Russian.

When I was filling in the blanks in the petition by hand, I realised how long it had been since I had written anything in cursive.

These smartphones, which we call mobile phones, have officially become a part of our lives.

I even keep daily notes in the notes section on the phone now.

I don't know, if I need to buy something at the supermarket, for example, I just switch on the phone at home and take a note in the notes section. 

Because when you are in the market, not everything you need comes to mind immediately. It is useful to make a list.

For the list, I think the phones that are almost always close to us serve as a good notebook.

However, the first typewriter was patented in America in 1829 by William Austin Burt(en).

Now I will not write down the historical development of the typewriter in all these two centuries, but one step in the transition from typewriters to today's printers was made by Edison, thanks to the electrification of the typewriters of those times.

Today, printers have developed tremendously and have turned into colour laser printers that have entered almost all of our homes.

We don't use them much, but we have one at home. It was used a lot when the little girl was studying.

Now we switch on the printer once in forty years if we need to print a document.

Communication has always been a problem for humanity throughout history, but today we are in the age of digital communication and many things have become quite easy compared to the past.

I think it would be very useful to use this advantage in other areas besides our daily lives.

It was the same when we were little, and it's the same now. For example, our children have summer holidays. 

With today's digital communication opportunities, is it not possible to have a holiday and continue education at the same time?

Then working life!

OK, working from homes was tried due to the pandemic.

* Although it has been proven that work done together in an office is much more productive, 

Can't more flexible working environments be created for some professions with today's digital communication opportunities?

Examples can be multiplied.

I think that in today's conditions, it seems to me that something has to change.

Since we have progressed so far in technology, it seems to me that it is not possible for the conservative view to stand in front of this progress.

I will say that we will wait and see, but if you want to change some things, waiting is not a solution either.

* If you want change, sometimes you have to put your hand under the stone!

* Change happens if you want it! 

* It happens if you do it!

If you wait for someone to change things, those people will change things however they want.

Then you will keep saying "I'm burnt" and you will keep beating yourself up because you wish you hadn't voted for them.

Change is a must! And not only in the opposition, change is needed in all areas of life!

Don't be afraid of change!
