How Viktor Orban gave the European Union a piece of his mind?
While it was emphasised that the Turkish military in Cyprus as a guarantor state was an occupier, on the other hand, the Azerbaijani army, which established constitutional order in its own territory, was also labelled as an occupier. Reacting to these statements, Hungary blocked the joint declaration.
Yes, dear readers, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces showed great heroism in the 44-day Homeland Battles between 27 September-10 November 2020, capturing a significant part of the 7 rayons of Karabakh, which was illegally occupied after the war, and fled without looking back. When the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenian gangs, who took over the terrorist mission in a sense, did not stop and continued their provocative actions, the Azerbaijani state took action with a correct and appropriate decision. The goal was to disarm the Armenian gangs in Nagorno-Karabakh, which Armenians call Artsakh, to put an end to the 'de facto' rule and to establish Azerbaijan's sovereignty in the region. The operation, which started on 19 September 2023, ended before even 24 hours (23 hours and 43 minutes) had elapsed when the gangs laid down their arms and accepted the ceasefire. (1) The Armenian separatists, who accepted the ceasefire on condition that Azerbaijan continued the operation, RF intervened and laid down their weapons, sat down at the table with Baku. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev, the most experienced politician in the South Caucasus, who knew in advance what might happen next, promised that the rights of Armenian citizens, whom the Armenian government defined as "forcibly displaced persons", would be "guaranteed".
Feeling secure in this situation, the Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh announced that the enclave called "Artsakh Republic" would be dissolved on 1 January 2024. Incidentally, and since it is clearly stated in the statement, it is useful to explain the technical terms "exclave" and "enclave"]. An enclave (from fra. exclave) is a political territory that is not geographically subordinate to the territory to which it is politically subordinate, but is separated from it by another political territory. An enclave (from enclave) territory is a territory of one country surrounded by another country. The territory enclosed by South Africa, for example "Lesotho", is an "enclave". Turkey's "enclave" is the "Caber Fortress" in Syria. There are also two "enclaves" within Switzerland: "Büsingen" in Germany and "Campione d'Italia" in Italy. This is why the Armenian separatists in Nagorno-Karabakh felt the need to explain their situation in international jargon. What are they saying? They say that we are an "enclave" territory, politically subordinate to Armenia. They tried to explain the reason for their existence. However, what they say is completely wrong and has no legal basis. Because the territory they are on is Azerbaijani territory in terms of international law and politics. "Karabakh is 1500 years old Turkish homeland."
Since the 6th century, Khazars, Seljuks, Ildenizids, Ilkhanids, Karakoyunlu, Timurids, Akkoyunlu, Safavids, Avshars, Kajars and Azerbaijani Turks have dominated Karabakh. Until the Russians settled Armenians in the region in the 19th century, there were almost no Armenians in Karabakh and the region was completely Turkish. Armenian Soviet politician Anastas Mikoyan, in his report to Lenin dated 20 May 1920, stated that Armenians had no ties with Karabakh and that it should not be separated from Baku. On 24 July 1923, the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region was declared.
The region, which was created under the administration of Azerbaijan, included Javanshir, Shusha, Jabrail, Zangezur and part of Kubatli. The activities of Armenians, backed by Soviet Russia, towards Karabakh gradually increased towards the end of the 1970s. Azerbaijan, on the other hand, declared that Karabakh was an integral part of Azerbaijan. In the last months of 1987, Azerbaijani Turks living in Karabakh were forced to migrate by Armenians. On 21 February 1988, Armenia declared that Karabakh belonged to Armenia and from 24 February onwards, the Turks in this region were put under pressure. In June of the same year, the Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic demanded Nagorno-Karabakh from the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, but the offer was rejected. Moreover, this proposal was not accepted by Moscow. Thereupon, the Armenians living in the region started to take control of the region in 1989 by blocking the transport with Karabakh and laying mines on the roads. In 1990, when the Azerbaijan Popular Front established the National Defence Committee, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet reaffirmed that Karabakh belonged to Azerbaijan. However, after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1992, Armenians, supported by the Russians, carried out massacres in Shusha, Khojaly and other places, cleansed the regions of Azerbaijani Turks and seized them. Most of the Azerbaijani Turks living in and around Karabakh became refugees and thousands of Turks were brutally killed by Armenians. (2)
The Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians, who are aware of what they have done to the Turkish people living in the region, have therefore started an unimaginable migration towards Armenia, and after this announcement, the migration accelerated and turned into a run-and-run. Armenia announced that the number of ethnic Armenians who left Nagorno-Karabakh and migrated to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh reached 65,36 thousand, exceeding half of the 120,000 Armenian population in the region. This is an extremely important result. The decree issued by the separatist ringleader 'Samvel Chakhramanian' announced that "all state institutions and organisations (...) will be dissolved on 1 January 2024" and as a result "the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh) will cease to exist." (1)
Now let us come to the issue of digesting this event. For example, the former President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, who could not digest the liberation of Karabakh from occupation, openly threatened Azerbaijan and indirectly Turkey. Serzh Sargsyan could not restrain himself from giving the following threatening message upon the liberation of Karabakh from occupation.
Sargsyan: "For me (the Karabakh book) will never be closed. I must say that despair is a sin. We should try to explain this fact to the people." (3)
Although Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, an unwavering follower of pro-Western policies, has also revealed his raison d'être. In this environment, where Sargsyan challenged him, Prime Minister Pashinyan also spilled the beans and directly accused the Azerbaijani Armed Forces by saying "Azerbaijan is committing ethnic cleansing". Pashinyan is conscious. So much so that he paid special attention to using terms from the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. His aim is to mobilise the international community. He even went further and demanded that Azerbaijan be punished for the "ethnic cleansing" that Yerevan claims took place in Nagorno-Karabakh. What can we say, "Yavuz the thief who is a thief, will be the master of the house."
Another thing is that we have a saying that has become ingrained in our language and we often say it when something is done wrong. The story of this proverb or aphorism is quite interesting. As everyone knows, the people of my country are skilful in taxation. What do they do? Either they try to pay as little tax as possible, or they think of not paying any tax at all, and they develop and try to develop various methods. As you know, one of the important sources of income of the Ottoman Empire was the "Agnam Tax" levied on livestock, and the other was the "Jizye", a kind of head tax levied on non-Muslims. Since there are goods and money at the end, the subjects and reaya try to underestimate the number. In the Ottoman period, we are not unaware that the people from Çorum and the people from Kayseri resorted to various means to deceive the tax officer. Çorumlu puts the sheep and Kayserili puts the donkey to bed as my father, but they cannot deceive the tax officer. When the tax officer sees the donkey lying on the bed, he bursts out his aphorism. "Even a Corumite would not do what you did". And he pays the fine. Even though there are various variants, this is the story, from time to time, the maxim "Even the people of Çorum would not do what you did" settles in the language of the people of this country... Yes, dear readers, we feel like saying "O Pashinyan, even a Corumite would not do what you have done".
The best and the king of the words will be to Viktor Orban, the Prime Minister of our Turkish brother, EU member Hungary, who has never left us alone against the EU. He is currently being assassinated in terms of reputation. Not only Prime Minister Orban, but also the entire Hungarian people are being assassinated in Sweden for not saying 'yes' to Sweden's NATO membership. Hungary and the Hungarian people are vilified in schools.
In response to this assassination of reputation, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Peter Szijjarto said that untrue accusations about his country were being spread in schools in Sweden. Szijjarto said that this would not contribute to the voting process for Sweden's NATO membership and emphasised that he considered the accusations of Swedish politicians that they were "undemocratic and authoritarian" as "insults".
But Prime Minister Orban has foiled a big game organised by the EU. The day after the 19 September Operation, 27 EU countries wanted to issue a joint statement on anti-Azerbaijani statements regarding the anti-terrorist operation against the Nagorno-Karabakh terrorists. Interestingly, while it was emphasised that the Turkish troops in Cyprus as a guarantor state were occupiers, on the other hand, the Azerbaijani army, which established constitutional order in its own territory, was also labelled as occupiers. Reacting to these statements, Hungary blocked the joint statement. Thus, the EU's so-called condemnation statement was blocked by Hungary. The anti-Azerbaijan statement prepared by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Joseph Borrell on Azerbaijan's anti-terrorist measures in Karabakh was initially supposed to be a joint statement of all 27 EU countries. However, it could not be made as Hungary vetoed it. (4)
After all this, I have to say that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who is described as the Chaves of the EU(D) Europe, is being punished by the EU because he was democratically elected, and now the Hungarian people are also getting their share of this reputation assassination. However, the Turkish nation as a whole stands by the friendly and brotherly Hungarian people and Prime Minister Orban, dear readers.
