What Happened to the Gains of the Republic to Our Women?
They Were Different
Today, I wanted to write an article for everyone who can understand the meaning and importance of the day. Yes, our women who benefit from the virtues of the Republic and know how to benefit from it should know very well that today's process is not easy to come by. There is a beautiful saying "Rights are not given, they are taken". I think we should expand this word a little bit, it is sad but true that the rights given to our women today have not become flesh and bone as a result of a struggle, they are the rights that our Atatürk gave to the valuable women of the great Turkish Nation with a great struggle despite those around him.
What Happened in the Early Years of the Young Republic?
As you know, the place of women has changed in our country after 1923. Women, who were not even allowed to speak, became doctors and began to treat everyone, men and women, they traveled from village to village on horseback, entered the laboratories and experimented, set up a chair at the university, wrote a book, published a newspaper, entered the parliament and defended the rights of the workers. Many struggled to advance the society, to establish and glorify the Republic.
In our lands, women's participation in life as a whole and their ability to express their opinions freely starts with the resistance movement in Anatolia. The first rally organized by women, the first acts in which women gave speeches, and the first articles they wrote appeared in this period.
Republic Achievements for Our Women
After the declaration of the Republic, with the new Civil Code, women began to receive education, work and produce under equal conditions with men. There were also many women among the young people who were sent abroad to receive scientific education after 1923. While their grandmothers and grandmothers were kept at home and made wives at a young age, they were sent to countries where they did not speak their language at the age of 17-18, on a state scholarship. It was not asked what a woman does there as she is!
They went, they studied, and none of them thought of staying in the country they went to. They owed a great debt to the young Republic that was established, they returned to their country and started to work. At the moment, whatever universities we call the most rooted university, our women have sweat in those universities. They founded the departments, they treated the sick, they raised the new generation, they wrote the books. While writing these, it should not be thought that I have forgotten the shortcomings.
We are aware that the Republic alone is not enough to ensure equality. More is needed for all women and men to be emancipated, to live equally. But today we are discussing the Republic. Because today, we are trying to be persuaded behind the gains of the Republic.
Annoying Things About Our Women
Girls who are not educated today; We have women who are "given" to someone at a very young age, those who are killed in the middle of the street for honor, and women who have to sell their bodies. More and more women are confined to their homes, being removed from science, free thought, and production. Why is that?
It turns out, a “professor” says that the reason for rape is women wearing low-cut. She adds that those at the center of rape and harassment crimes are women. There are those who say to the young woman who dropped her baby with police kicks, what is she doing while she is pregnant, in action. Courts find guilty of a young girl who was raped.
I am writing these so that those who are not afraid of falling behind the republic can learn.
Conclusion
The facts are clear, the question is: Will we prefer the Ottoman Empire or the Republic? Do we want to be in the harem, in all areas of an equal life? Let's give the answer more clearly on this March 8th day: Salute to women who struggle to live equally and who produce!
Happy 8 March to all our women...
I say stay with respect and love...
