Just when we were about to say finally after 21 years
I must say that despite his calm, determined and consistent character, despite his sincerity, despite the fact that he gave up the principles his party had acquired over the years, despite the fact that he set out with the claim that he would unite the people, despite all the promises made, despite all the documents signed, despite all the memorandums of understanding, the fact that Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu only received around 45% of the votes from this society should be something to think about.
Yes, I think we were all going to say okay, this is done, the opposition will win by a landslide, we will be happy as a country, but it didn't happen again.
So this is it?
Naturally, you could see from the faces of the leaders that the morale of the opposition was very low.
They also seemed to have changed their rhetoric.
In that short address to the nation, they said that they had not won Mr. Erdoğan in the first round and that this was not over yet.
Moreover, they did not get the parliamentary majority, it is almost certain that the opposition will not get the parliamentary majority.
As far as I watched on the channels throughout the day yesterday, it was actually a calm election.
In the evening, I followed the counting of the votes on various channels with curiosity.
I even criticized the government's constant objections to the ballot boxes where the opposition votes were high.
The voter turnout rate may have broken the record in Turkey's electoral history, it seems to be close to 90%.
In other words, I do not agree with the narrative that Mr. İnce's voters have been alienated, as some people say.
I cannot speak with certainty because the counting of all the ballot boxes has not been finalized yet, so at the time of writing this article, the final minutes have not yet been delivered to the YSK due to objections and recounts.
Nevertheless, the situation is now clear: we will probably repeat the presidential election.
With these results, we can say with certainty that the election will go to a second round.
Can you imagine how much work Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu and his team have to do now?
They need to give hope to the society, let alone demoralize it.
Actually, I wanted to keep this article quite short today.
However, I think I need to analyze the situation, albeit briefly.
Despite his calm, decisive and consistent character, despite his sincerity, despite the fact that he gave up the principles his party had acquired over the years, despite the fact that he set out with the claim that he would unite the people, despite all the promises made, despite all the documents signed, despite all the memorandums of understanding, the fact that Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu only received around 45% of the votes from this society should be something to think about.
It means that the sociology of this society has not responded in any way.
There is no point in blaming Mr. Sinan Oğan for this situation.
Yes, I sometimes wish he had withdrawn like Mr. İnce, or even not participated in the election at all.
However, the situation looks much different than his influence.
If we consider the number of voters who participated in the elections as 57 million people (64x90%), approximately 31 million voters did not vote for him, did not show any favor to him in the election!
Unfortunately, the opposition could not convince these 31 million voters to vote for Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu.
It is never possible to please everyone, this is understandable.
However, I think it is a big problem for the opposition not to be able to reach such a large mass of voters.
Because this is a very large electorate.
Don't any of them suffer from economic problems?
I think the vast majority of them are struggling economically.
But still, more than 27 million voters voted for Mr. Erdoğan. Despite all his faults, they still voted for him!
I think it is time for each of us, as lovers of democracy, to knock on the doors of those different voters one by one and have a cup of tea with them.
Is there time for that?
I think we should find it.
Let's see what is the reason why they did not vote for Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu?
Not to convince them, just what did they think at that moment of voting, why didn't they choose him? To find out the mindset of these voters and the real reason why they voted differently.
I think we need to ask each and every one of them this question, sincerely, not in an accusatory tone, to find out what were their reservations, what were their fears.
We also need to find out what they want and expect from those in power by asking them one by one.
I think we can find a way to get this information to the opposition.
Speaking of door to door, maybe we should reach out to the mosque congregations and ask them the same questions.
In short, whatever hinders our social unity, who is afraid of what, who is afraid of what, I think we should learn everything before the second election and help the opposition to find solutions to all these problems.
This is what I think.
Is it possible?
Yes, it is no longer possible.
Then I have nothing more to say.
Love and respect to everyone from Moscow
