Genuine politics must be done for democracy and peace
When it comes to the institution of politics, three basic functions can be mentioned. These are "increasing production, making the distribution fair and realizing these in an environment of peace".
Surveys reveal that the public has very little trust in politicians (ruling and opposition). In my opinion, the reason for this is that people see the entire institutional structure that makes the state a state under the siege and tutelage of political parties.
In order to have trust in politics, people must believe that there is a system that truly represents them and trust this system. This can only be achieved through true democracy and the functioning of the institutions that make democracy possible.
Since the dawn of humanity, there have been two great struggles. One of these is man's struggle with man and the other is man's struggle with nature.
Man's struggle with man has led to weapons, weapons have led to wars, and wars have naturally caused great destruction for humanity.
Man's struggle with nature, on the other hand, gave rise to tools, which eventually led to industrialization, and unregulated industrialization and the disproportionate greed for wealth have polluted the world and made it almost uninhabitable today.
As a result, capitalism and exploitation schemes have worked hand in hand to enslave large masses of people, shrinking their living space, poisoning their water, and turning human beings into commodities (tools). Not only that, they have not hesitated to destroy him/her in line with their interests through oppression and cruelty when necessary. Seeing that the disorder that destroys human beings and destroys nature cannot go on like this, humanity has had to make a great "U-Turn" and has made an effort to correct it.
The name of this turn, which has not yet been fully successful, is peace. At the current grave point, the way out of this vortex requires reconciliation of human beings with human beings and human beings with nature. Attempts to reconcile man with nature have led to environmental awareness, and attempts to reconcile man with man have led to democracy as the best form of government ever found.
Living in peace has its difficulties, so it is not an easy task to achieve it. Because there are monopolies of war in the world and there are many powers that want to rule, invade and exploit. There are two important actors here; one is the people, who are the subject of the work, and the other is the political institution that has the means to realize it. One of the three main functions of politics, which has come to the executive office with the support of the people, is to establish, protect and maintain social peace. The other two are to increase production and ensure that what is produced is shared equitably. These constitute the pillar of peace and the basic functions of politics.
When it comes to the institution of politics, three basic functions can be mentioned. These are "increasing production, making the distribution fair and realizing these in an environment of peace". Production is wealth, while poverty is not shared and is the mother of many problems. Wealth, which can be shared, only works when people are seen as ends, not means. Emanuel Kant, the most important political and social philosopher of continental Europe, says that "man is the end, never the means".
This is the way to live a dignified life, the way to ensure that every human being lives in a manner befitting human dignity. At this point, I think production, which is one of the most important facts, is very important, because wealth comes from production, and societies that do not produce are poor. Then social justice and order are disrupted.
In societies where poverty reigns, while the masses struggle for bread, malicious politicians get rich by stealing public resources. Even if some people want to react to this, they cannot. Because even if they have the intention to oppose, they do not have the necessary equipment. In other words, they have the intention but not the strength and power. Because they are intimidated and cowed by those in power, they do not have the courage to oppose. Thus, hunger, poverty, unemployment and luxury, excessive enrichment go on together. In a sense, this is what we are going through in our country. When we look at today, we see that the middle class is disappearing, while those in the upper strata are enriching themselves by using political power.
While these rich people live in luxury and opulence, the number of people living on the verge of starvation is increasing day by day. Therefore, in this system, while the rich get richer, the poor get poorer. Those who have captured the state see it as a spoil to be shared instead of an apparatus to be managed and attack it like hungry wolves. Those who are unjustly and unlawfully enriched live in ultra-luxury, while the poor are condemned to live in poverty. The result is a bipolar caste, a class division with a gulf between them.
This poses the biggest threat to social peace. This is because this bipolarity always harbors tensions with potential conflict dynamics. The way to eliminate this is to ensure fairness in distribution.
The second fundamental function of politics is to spread production and added value to the grassroots and to ensure fair distribution. Capitalism and its feeders do not do this because they feed on this system. Those who feed on the system cannot change it, on the contrary, they try to maintain it. That is why these people love growth but never love distribution, in fact they hate distribution. In this state of affairs, those who seize the means of production and the power of governance with this mentality always talk about rights and law, but in practice they always carve them up for themselves, use the resources in their favor, and grow fat and prosperous in this way. They try to silence those who object to this by using the monopoly of force they have seized, they oppress and intimidate those outside themselves and their supporters.
However, one day this tension breaks the rope and leads to social explosions and social crises that are difficult to resolve. The only way to prevent this and to eliminate the injustice in income distribution is to spread development to the grassroots and to ensure the equitable sharing of what is produced. When you achieve this, all-round social development takes place spontaneously and you pioneer social welfare. Without this, everything that is substituted for it will lose its value over time. Not only does society experience political tensions at this point, but it is also dragged into a vortex that feeds conflict economically. Socio-psychological tensions turn into chaos, which makes the conflicts that will emerge over time difficult to resolve.
I have said that one of the three most basic functions of politics is to increase production and one is to ensure distribution. The third, and the source of the other two, is to ensure peace. Because if you don't increase production and even ensure distribution in an environment of peace, it won't work. Let's say you have the means to live in a nice house with a good income, but there is bloodshed. There is no peace both at home and outside, on the contrary there is fighting. People are being killed in one way or another, funerals are coming to the neighborhood and the city every day, is that wealth worth anything? No. Because life makes sense if there are healthy and peaceful living conditions. Otherwise, what is the value of having beautiful furniture when the house is on fire? Then peace is a must. And peace is a must for peace.
Some populist minds, fascist ideologies and authoritarian governments dislike peace like wolves dislike smog! They feed on conflict and chaos. So what needs to be done at this point is not to put in power those who deliberately fuel all kinds of polarization, those who hope to benefit from conflict, those who feed on blood and chaos, and if they are there by chance, to send them out as soon as possible. Because they not only foment conflict at home but also seek to create war abroad. But there is no bad peace for a society, just as there is no good war. Totalitarians confuse society by always emphasizing the necessity of war. While the children of poor people are dying all the time in conflicts and wars, they talk about how necessary and noble this kind of death is in order to send those left behind to die.
First of all, in order to become an economically prosperous society, we need to increase production. The distribution must be fair and equitable. Only in this way will it be possible to establish lasting peace. But the important thing is to bring to power a political understanding that will ensure these things and political cadres with the appropriate qualifications. We call this merit for short. A country's problems cannot be solved with the same solution methods of a century ago. But unfortunately, problems are tried to be solved with the same methods. However, if you have struggled with a problem more than once with the same method and failed to solve it. Then you have to change both your approach and the context of the problem. Otherwise, the same problems will continue for another hundred years. In this process, nothing will happen to the well-to-do, it will happen to the people.
If we want to continue into the second century as a free and prosperous country, we need to learn from the mistakes of the previous century and not repeat them. The task before us today is to act courageously with this consciousness and responsibility and to realize this change. For this, we need politicians who love their homeland and respect its values.
I say stay with respect and love.
