Philosophy of Existentialism

According to existentialism, the purpose of education is to provide the individual with the opportunity to develop his own individuality by teaching that human freedom is superior to everything else.

Knowing one's inner self, in other words, knowing one's essence, is possible through philosophy. In the 21st century, there are no philosophers living in ancient times anymore. People interested in human values, which have eroded over time, have become almost non-existent. Maybe new philosophical movements will emerge over time, and they will guide human beings seeking a place for themselves in the changing world with new philosophical perspectives.

Although not today, there were people like this in the past. For example, the philosophy of existentialism, which emerged in the 19th century and which I tried to implement in my life journey, is such a movement. Those who believe in and try to implement the philosophy of existentialism essentially attach importance to humans and inculcate trust in humanity. According to them, a person should decide for himself what he will do during his life. In this philosophical approach, the emphasis is on the difference of humans from other living creatures in terms of existence.

Man first exists, then creates himself with his free will based on choosing his own essence. This creation is reason and logic. They are pragmatic approaches, far from dogmas. Analysis begins in your own mind. Human beings are a unique being on earth. In it, the beginning of everything is human reason and freedom. The basic paradigm that this philosophy wants to explain is human beings and their right to live freely. Advanced societies have implemented this philosophical narrative in their education systems and have partially prevented dogmatic ideas and ideological obsessions.

A modern education should enable a person to recognize his or her true characteristics. School programs should help develop personalities. The task of the teacher is to help the person receiving education to know himself. In education, people should be given the opportunity to find the truth and choose their own truth by giving them different options. The main purpose of existential education is to increase freedoms. It provides the opportunity to develop the child's individuality. For this reason, it is important to make a person an independent and free person above the influence of his environment, family, and even school and teacher.

According to existentialism, the purpose of education is to provide the individual with the opportunity to develop his own individuality by teaching that human freedom is superior to everything else.

Since existentialism is generally described as a philosophical movement that attaches importance to human freedoms and leaves the choice of freedom and responsibility to people, it spread rapidly, especially among young people, in its first years. Existentialism emerged in the mid-19th century as a reaction against the dominant systematic philosophy. This movement is generally based on psychological and cultural movements; It is a philosophy movement that argues that it can exist together with individual experiences.

One of the greatest representatives of existentialism is the famous writer and philosopher, Jean Paul Sartre. According to him, man has no predetermined essence (destiny). In this case, man is completely free. A free person will create his own essence and values. It will be whatever it wants to be. A person, whose moral behavior is not determined by any power, will create his own moral values. Establishing these moral values is not an understanding of morality that can include everyone. In other words, there is no universal morality.

Like Sartre, Soren Kierkegaard is one of the leaders of this movement and is considered the first philosopher to adopt the understanding of existentialism. His proposition "Existence precedes essence" constitutes the center of existentialism. This has been seen as the most meaningful body of individual understanding. Your mental dictionary is one of the things that make you who you are.

Again, literature has an important position in existentialism becoming a movement. As a matter of fact, existential thinkers such as Albert Camus and Jean Paul Sartre felt the need to explain their ideas in this sense through literary works. Thus, a concept that we can call "existential literature" emerged.
