What are the Security Measures You Should Take at Your Workplace?

Ensure that the workplace is secured against suicide bombers and armed attacks from a distance. All visitors, including personnel, entering and leaving the workplace (their bags and themselves separately) must be searched with electronic systems. Everyone, including you and your relatives, must comply with the search rules.

The security measures you take at your workplace cover most of the security measures you would take at home. However, you need to take some additional precautions. These mainly consist of additional issues such as visitors, biological and chemical attacks and measures to be taken against live bombs.

First of all, control access to and from your workplace. No one should be able to enter and leave wherever and whenever they want. Make sure there is a barrier or barrier system to prevent vehicles from entering uncontrolled. Foreign vehicles should not be allowed to enter the parking lot of the workplace, even if they are visiting.

It would be good to have an interview room near the entrance of the workplace for staff to meet with visitors. If it is not work-related, you should also receive visitors there. Do not accept people you do not know as visitors. If you must, take 1-2 trusted people with you.

Search visitors with electronic devices at the entrance/guardhouse. Security personnel should always carry out visual checks and manual searches when suspicious. Security personnel should also be trained in explosive odors, what explosives look like, what the indicators might be.

As far as possible, do not agree to see more than one person at the same time, whether in your room or in the visitor center. Be suspicious of all visitors arriving late at night. Do not meet with anyone who requests an interview but does not give his or her purpose and identity. Keep a list of wanted or threatening persons both with you and with the guard at the entrance.

Do not open letters, parcels and packages without having them checked against biological and chemical threats. Do not open boxes or packages without being sure of what they are, except for those coming from any government institution or private company through official / routine channels.

Prepare a protocol on what to do in suspicious situations and teach it to the staff. Ensure that masks and gloves are used when opening packages. Inform staff that packages, boxes, letters and parcels should be examined externally for signs before opening. Ensure that they receive the necessary training.

Ensure that the workplace is secured against suicide bombers and armed attacks from a distance. All visitors, including personnel, entering and leaving the workplace (their bags and themselves separately) must be searched with electronic systems. Everyone, including you and your relatives, must comply with the search rules. Staff should be informed about these issues. Cameras at the entrance, in corridors and in rooms should be installed and recorded.

There should be a security barrier at the entrance to prevent illegal or forced entry. Anyone entering the workplace should not be able to go wherever they want inside, and there should be graduated security measures inside. In other words, if someone enters the workplace illegally or normally, they should only be able to reach the visitor reception room.

To go beyond that room, he or she must pass new security measures. This gradation should be everywhere. For example, a person who is authorized to enter any part of the workplace for any job should only be able to open the doors and barriers leading to that part of the workplace with the card in his/her hand, and should not be able to enter other parts.

This is very important, as we saw in the assassination of the Sabancı family. Someone who somehow manages to get in through the main entrance must face multiple obstacles to reach you or any of your staff. This way, even if he gets in, he will be recognized and stopped at some point.

At every level, visitors' bags and bodies should be searched with electronic search systems. Particular attention should be paid to pregnant and fat-looking visitors. Attackers may use pregnancy as a mask to avoid entering the control devices, using the health of the baby as an excuse.
